This kit has the most efficient lysis of all species with a very easy protocol. The unbias lysis provides credible data and doesn't risk the most expensive downstream analysis. Also have better price than the competition.

Extract and purify DNA from bird blood
The kit is very effective in extracting DNA from bird blood. That kind of sample is quite hard to manipulate since only small volume can be processed at once. Instead, the presence of beads facilitates the rupture of cloths or similar aggregate, thus allowing the process of larger volumes. Therefore, the major problem of the kit (the need for long vortexing of sample with beads) becomes an advantage.

Quick and Easy with little to no inhibitor contamination
Compost microbial community analysis (NGS)
I started using this product to extract DNA from vermicompost (high humic acid) samples. I ran test extractions of 100-300mg (wet) samples using DNA/RNA shield as a lysis reagent. All samples showed great 260/280 (~1.9) ratios and amplified very well. Overall the kit was easier and faster to use than powersoil kits. Zymo representatives have been very responsive and helpful with any questions regarding the kit.

The ZymoBIOMICS™ innovative lysis system eliminates bias associated with unequal lysis efficiencies of different organisms (e.g. Gram-negative/positive bacteria, fungus, protozoans, and algae) making it ideal for microbial community profiling. Unbiased mechanical lysis of tough microbes is achieved by bead beating with the innovative ZymoBIOMICS™ ultra-high density BashingBeads™ and validated using the ZymoBIOMICS™ Microbial Community Standard, as shown in Figure 3.
