Epoch is a highly effective machine, especially for our need i.e analytical biotechnology. We are using it for quantitative assays, enzyme kinetics and developing immunoassays. We are grateful to manufacturers and suppliers for their post-installation services, quality of the product, ease of use, and easy to use software. The results we are obtaining are far better and more reliable than the simple spectrophotometer we were using before. The reproducibility and fidelity are 100% guaranteed. My lab group is thanking me for selecting this item. I have saved money by purchasing Epoch Microplate Spectrophotometer.

This became our go-to instrument. I have to say it is night-and-day better in pretty much every way than our previous Spectrophotometer. It is MUCH more suited for a commercial R&D or Production environment than the previous instruments. It is faster, more reliable, is able to output formatted data tables, etc. The large degree of customization in reporting saved a HUGE amount of time and trouble, allowing us to have all of the relevant information right at our fingertips instead of requiring manual calculation. Couple this with the damn reliable reads and it became an all around winner. Day-to-day variability was almost razor sharp and performing dilutions was much more reproducible than with our previous instruments. After learning the software, pretty much everyone in the company preferred our instrument and two other labs ended up getting them as well. I liked it so much that I have spec'd it as the replacement at my new company.

It's been somewhat frustrating to use. We haven't been able to determine whether it is user error or the machine, but we are still struggling to get reliable results.

UV-Vis Microplate Spectrophotometer

Epoch is a nice plate reader that can read microplates of various formats, up to 384 wells. It is a pretty robust instrument, we've had it for three years now with frequent use, hasn't needed any service. The instrument can do wavelength scans as well. Software (Gen5) is easy to use, and also very versatile. For example, you can do time course experiments, and can save frequently used protocols and experiments. You can select easily what cells to read and there is option for some data manipulation as well. Another useful feature of Gen5 is to export dataset to Excel with a single mouse click. It was quite a pricey instrument back then, more expensive than competitors, but in my experience it has been good value for the money because of the high reproducibility, wavelength accuracy, robustness and versatility of the instrument, as well as the nice features of the software. I'd recommend this instrument for any lab that needs a UV-Vis microplate reader.
