FastPrep-24™ Classic Instrument
Delivering the most effective grinding for all kind of sample in 40 seconds or less.
Pretty good instrument, useful in lab practice
Homogenization of bacteria, soil, plant tissue samples for DNA, RNA and proteins analysis
The homogenization need optimization but after that it was generally efficient, using appropriate set of lysing matrix we were able to dezintegrate even hard samples like wood

Great results and trustworthy.
Metabolomics and analytical chemistry
This is a great product that never let me down in 5 years of use; not day-to-day use though. It looks reproducible enough for my samples: plants, algae and corals.

Great machine but it can yield heat in samples.
Metabolomics
In my lab, we have used this product to process plants, cells, and corals. It never lets me down, and I never use commercial matrices. I mostly use 0.5mm zirconium beads. Great machine but it can yield heat in samples.

Reliable results are always obtained when using MP Biomedicals Products.
Detection and identification of fungal and bacterial organisms in soil samples
We have compared results from samples extracted with MP Biomedicals kits to other kits (both commercially available and 'in-house' methods), and MP Biomedicals products always prove to be superior. The ease of use with the Fast Prep system makes it the first choice among all researchers in our lab.

Quick, efficient and easy to use. Saves time and money.
Small scale preparations for in-vitro penetration experiments
Great piece of equipment. Even though we don’t use it for its intended purpose, the principle is the same. We have spent years using a ball mill homogenizer which creates a lot of heat and takes a long time to achieve preparations with a desired particle size. The Fastprep has reduced hours of ball milling and sonicating in water and ice to a couple of minutes. Plus with the CoolTeen adaptor we can keep preparations cold or practically frozen. The classic model is simple to use and the ability to save a method to use over and over again saves a lot of time. Customer services were great with sorting us out with all the right sized vials minus the beads as we add our own later in the production of our preparations. After a number of years certain highly used parts were starting to wear and we were able to get replacements quickly and at very good prices.

Useful but very fragile.
DNA extraction, protein purification
This is a very useful instrument. Unfortunately some parts of instrument are so fragile and materials used for construction are not resistant. As a result, often particular parts of machine are broken and need replacement. Replacements of pieces is very expensive.

Great for extractions, but the durability of a central part needs to be improved.
DNA extraction
The instrument is probably the standard for nucleic acid extraction from environmental samples. Thus the effectiveness for nuc extraction is high. My major criticism is that the spokes wheel for holding the tubes could be of much better quality. We have had to order a second spare part already. The price for the spare part is extemely high.

A rapid extraction method for alcohol markers from hair samples
In this application note, MP Biomedicals outlines how to speed up the extraction time of alcohol markers from hair samples.
Optimized methodology for sequential skin tissue extraction of RNA and protein from small human biopsies
Skin tissue, although easily accessible, is difficult to process owing to its natural resistance to mechanical shearing and high levels of RNase and proteases. In this application note, MP Biomedicals uses two extraction techniques to disrupt the biopsy samples, homogenization and bead beating.
Drastically improve the efficacy of DNA extraction from volcanic ash soil
The challenge with extractions from soil is isolating DNA or RNA without contamination by humic acids or other PCR inhibitors. Volcanic ash soil, such as andisol, is known to be very difficult because this soil has a complex matrix. In this application note, learn how to improve DNA extraction.

Exploring the world of microbiomes – Insights of state-of-the-art solutions for metagenomic approaches
To explore the natural microbial community of any ecosystem by high-resolution molecular approaches, it is extremely important to develop sensitive and reproducible nucleic acid extraction methods that facilitate isolation of microbial DNA and RNA of sufficient purity and quantity.
Proper lysis of microbial cells without damaging their genomes is the first major challenge. Then, as a second step, isolation and extraction must yield high quality nucleic acid for subsequent metagenomic studies.
MP Biomedicals supplies a complete solution from sample grinding, cell lysis to nucleic acid extraction and purification.
In order to offer a ready-to-use, flexible and reliable solution for nucleic acid isolation, MP Biomedicals has developed a portfolio of FastPrep bead beating instruments together with a broad panel of Lysing Matrix tubes to grind and lyse thoroughly any sample type and built up a comprehensive range of organic-based, spin column-based as well as magnetic beads-based extraction kits for the isolation of high-quality DNA and RNA.
