Robust and precise testing of PEM fuel cells
PEM fuel cell testing
In our lab, we are using overall 8 Gamry Reference 3000 potentiostats for the testing of PEM fuel cells. The potentiostats are integrated into test stands of Greenlight Innovation and operate highly automated. The Reference 3000 produces highly reliable data for our research and shows a robust performance. The required maintenance is normally minimal and we have always received very helpful support from the local distributor (C3 Analysentechnik, Munich). The applications are versatile. The most common usecases are cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and chronoamperometry. In the context of PEM fuel cell durability tests, the Reference 3000 can be used for voltage cycling as well.

Easy to use and very helpful after-sales support
Corrosion testing of metals
The instrument is easy to set up and the software is very intuitive. Several times when I had trouble understanding some anomalous results, the Gamry technical staff was very proactive in helping me diagnose and fix the issue. The no-questions-asked and free machine check+calibration at the end of the warranty period is a plus and gives peace of mind. The cost is reasonable, but it would have been nice if this was a multi-channel potentiostat. Overall, I recommend this product for corrosion testing.

Great instrument, I will keep using this for my research.
Testing PEM/AEM water electrolyzers for V-i curves, impedance, and durability.
I have been using several different potentiostats for my researches, and found that Gamry is ease to use and the data has high quality. The instrument is also very easy to maintain and very friendly to use or running tests. I have been the user of Gamry for more than 3 years, and will purchase my own Gamry instrument soon.

I only buy Gamry potentiostats.
Electrochemistry
Gamry potentiostats are very easy to use and give high quality data. I like the ability to write custom measurement scripts and automation via the Gamry sequencer. Tech support is excellent - they even help you write your custom programmes if necessary. I have connected the potentiostat to peristaltic pump, led light source and optical shutters to control these aux devices during electrochemical measurements.

Highly recommended for corrosion studies.
Study corrosion of metals and degradation of coatings
This is a versatile, accurate potentiostat for a wide range of applications. I like that the software UI is targeted for corrosion testing as opposed to fundamental electrochemical research. Though the software looks very dated, it's still very easy to use. The Gamry support staff are pretty responsive and the tutorials on the website makes getting started easy. Though I should note that the price range is on the higher side and similar functionality at a lower price tag is possible with OEMs like Pine Research or Biologic.

Easy to use.
Corrosion testing
The potentiostat is easy to setup and the software is simple to use. However, the Framework and ECehm Analyst software looks very dated and does have some unfortunate bugs (e.g. incessant warnings about experiment data coming from terminated/aborted tests even when it’s not true). The support team is helpful to answer questions.

Stable and easy to use.
Corrosion
Easy to use by students. Generally a very stable instrument. Very happy with it.

EIS of difficult samples
Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) is a technique that can be applied to various systems. This white paper is designed to give helpful information for systems that are a bit more challenging to measure. Typical examples would include barrier coatings, very corrosion-resistant materials, and very low impedance samples such as large supercapacitors (on the order of hundreds or thousands of Farads).
Troubleshooting your Gamry potentiostat
In this application note, Gamry outlines how to troubleshoot, calibrate and check the EIS performance a Gamry potentiostat.
Testing Super-Capacitors
Super-capacitors are energy storage devices similar to secondary batteries. Unlike batteries, which use chemical reactions to store energy, super-capacitors generally store energy through the physical separation of electrical charges. All super-capacitors consist of two electrodes immersed in a conductive liquid or conductive polymer called the electrolyte. The electrodes are separated by an ionicconducting separator that prevents shorts.
How to Set Up Your Electrochemical Experiment: Two-, Three-, and Four-Electrode Experiments
This applcication note explores and explains the setup of Gamry Instruments potentiostats in a series of electrode experiments. This note is applicable to any Gamry potentiostat, as well as some others.
Accuracy Contour Plots – Measurement and Discussion
Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) is an indispensable, valuable, and versatile analytical tool for resolving electrochemical processes. This technical note discusses the Accuracy Contour Plot (ACP). The ACP gives the user valuable information about a potentiostat’s EIS performance and accuracy, enabling the user to compare the EIS capability of any potentiostat.
High-Current Pulses for Battery Research
The Reference™ 3000 potentiostat and 30k Booster by Gamry can be used for running stress tests on batteries by applying rapid, high-current pulses singly or repeatedly. This application note shows the characteristics of these instruments and displays their suitability for battery testing.
Testing Electrochemical Capacitors Part 3: Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy
This application note is Part 3 of the series describing electrochemical techniques for energy-storage devices. It discusses basics of Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) and introduces Gamry’s EIS techniques by measurements on single electrochemical capacitors (ECs) and stacks.
The Fundamentals of the Potentiostat
In this application note, learn about the fundamentals of the potentiostat - an electronic instrument that controls the voltage difference between a working electrode and a reference electrode. Both electrodes are contained in an electrochemical cell. The potentiostat implements this control by injecting current into the cell through an auxiliary, or counter, electrode.
Understanding the Specifications of your Potentiostat
In this application note Gamry Instrument explain potentiostats, showing how different potentiostats are aimed at different applications. They explain all of the important factors so that you can choose the right one for your research.
