Determining Residue on Ignition in Pharmaceutical and Nutraceutical Products by Gravimetric Loss on Ignition Analysis
Pharmaceutical and Nutraceutical companies have a responsibility to ensure the drugs they are distributing are not only safe and effective for the consumers but are consistent between different batches and manufactures; this involves measuring the residue on ignition (ROI). The % ROI describes the amount of total concentration of inorganic salts and trace metals that fail to ignite at 600 °C. In this application note, Arizona Instrument was able to demonstrate equivalency between the traditional muffle furnace method and the Computrac® MAX® 5000XL Moisture and Ash Analyzer for several vitamins and supplements.
Purity and Poison Gas: Investigating the Relationship between Gypsum Purity and Hydrogen Sulfide Production under Anaerobic Conditions
This application note demonstrates that as gypsum decomposes in the presence of sulfate-reducing agents, hydrogen sulfide is produced and gypsum purity degrades. Gypsum purity can be determined from the amount of chemically bound water that is available within a sample of gypsum. Measuring this bound moisture via loss-on-drying analysis (MAX® 5000XL) gives a reliable measurement of gypsum purity and can offer a way to predict the amount of H2S that will be produced under anaerobic conditions.
Maximizing Power from Biomass
Traditionally biomass materials have been analyzed for moisture using a conventional oven, and ash using a furnace. In this application note, a new method for moisture and ash analysis has been developed that enables accurate moisture and ash testing. An instrument using this method was able to provide real time results, and final water and ash concentrations correlated to standard test methods currently used for multiple materials in different industries. Test times were significantly reduced which affords manufacturers the opportunity to make changes in process quickly and maximize output.
The Quality of Pet Food: Moisture and Ash Content Analysis
This application note describes moisture and ash analysis of two different brands of dry dog food using the Computrac® MAX® 5000XL high temperature ash analyzer. The MAX® 5000XL has a linked test feature, allowing for multiple testing types, which was used to do both moisture and ash analysis using one sample, decreasing the testing time required.
Moisture and Ash Testing in Food Processing
Moisture content has been established as an important indicator of shelf life for foods. Moisture can determine the aesthetics of food, giving estimates to product shelf life regardless of sample properties in a wet or dry state. Ash content is also essential to a food’s nutrition and longevity. In this application note read about the features of the Arizona Instrument LLC (AZI) Computrac® Moisture/Solids/Ash Analyzers, that allow quick and easy ash and moisture analysis in food.
