Reliable and efficient.
High throughout pinning and liquid handling
The Tecan Freedom Evo 100 with MCA96 and attached pin tool is fast and reliable. No problems with liquid transfer or operation. However the software is a bit dated and there is a small learning curve.

Great instrument!
High content screening
We have a 384-well pipetting head that we find very robust and reproducible. The software is easy to use and functioning properly apart from some bugs (which is one of the drawbacks, the software doesn't evolve much although some issues are known). The after sales care is very efficient and reactive. The price of the system is coherent within the possibilities of the instrument, the tips remain a little the major cost.

Clinical Molecular Diagnostics
This product is easy to use. The more difficult component is programming the instrument, but once trained, it is also fairly straightforward. Service for the instrument is also great, our technicians that come out are friendly, professional and great at fine tuning the instrument for all our molecular needs.

It is easy to learn and use. It has useful technology. However it has slower service. For large companies they can afford it but a little harder for smaller or start-ups to afford and maintain. The service can use some improvement in post sales.

High Throughput Screening
I like the easy user interface and flexibility in programming the robot to do whatever I need it to do. It is possible to be a simple or as complex as I need it to be and it’s very quick to change things when I need it to do a one-off transfer or something. I have always had good customer service and price breaks from Tecan.

Freedom EVO workstations provide unrivalled flexibility, uniquely offering a choice of pipetting technologies – even allowing you to combine air and liquid displacement – on a single workstation. Two-, four- and eight-channel liquid displacement (LiHa) or four-/eight-channel air displacement (Air LiHa) pipetting arms are available, offering a volume range from 0.5 to 5,000 µl or more. For true parallel processing, the MultiChannel Arm 96 offers simultaneous pipetting of 96 channels, providing timely addition of liquids directly into microplates, helping to optimize assay results. The MCA 96 has the flexibility to work with both disposable and washable tips, which can be automatically exchanged during a run. It can also operate as an 8- or 12-channel pipette by picking up a single column or row of disposable tips. To further increase throughput and productivity, a MultiChannel Arm 384 is also available. It offers a very broad volume range – 0.5 to 125 µl in 384-well format or 0.5 to 500 µl in 96-well format – and can use washable and disposable tips interchangeably during a workflow, picking up rows of 12 or 24 tips and columns of 8, 16 or 32 tips if required.

Fully Integrated Plating and Colony Picking for Synthetic Biology Workflows
The Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer (IRIC) at the University of Montreal pursues a unique approach to investigate complex biological processes. In this study, the laboratory team established a reliable, fully automated cloning workflow on a Freedom EVO® workstation. This system performs fully automated multi-fragment DNA assembly, customized plating in ANSI/SLAS-format plates, colony picking and PCR set-up – as well as agar plate preparation – allowing the group to greatly increase the throughput of their experiments.

This application note demonstrates how MACHEREY-NAGEL’s NucleoSpin® 96 PCR Clean-up kit and Tecan’s Freedom EVO® platform can be used in combination to provide a flexible automated solution for the purification of PCR products. PCR has become a standard molecular biology tool for biological and medical research laboratories, and is used for DNA cloning, sequencing and genetic testing. For most applications, PCR products need to be purified, and this is advantageous to perform in a high throughput format.

This application note describes the optimum application configurations for in situ hybridization using Tecan’s GenePaint™ System. GenePaint™ automates all of the steps required for performing in situ hybridization of tissues on microscope slide formats. Avian Influenza: Automated Nucleic Acid Testing for Veterinarian Diagnostics
This application note describes an automated method for nucleic acid extraction and avian influenza diagnosis. Avian influenza is a bird disease caused by the highly pathogenic influenza virus. Specific mutations and evolution in influenza viruses cannot be predicted, making it difficult if not impossible to know if or when a virus such as H5N1 might acquire the properties needed to spread easily and sustainably among humans. Technological advances over the past couple of years have enabled 3D scaffolds to be engineered that create an in vivo proxy that is more realistically mimics living cellular environments. This application note demonstrates that the Freedom EVO workstation can simply and routinely process cell cultures in Alvetex Scaffold in a 96-well plate format. The results show that when combined these systems can provide cell biologists with higher throughput as well as higher level of standardization for both basic research and drug discovery.
