Application Area:

Pathogen detection

The method is relatively faster and easier to use. It provides a user-friendly software, less preparation time and lower risk of contamination during pathogen detection. The kit is validated by both AOAC and AFNOR and can be easily verified in the laboratory. It makes our work easier but still with high accuracy and sensitivity.

Review Date: 15 May 2024 | Thermo Fisher Scientific

Detect Salmonella species in food and environmental samples with the Thermo Scientific™ SureTect™ Salmonella Species PCR Assay which incorporates optimized primer and probe components for highly-specific detection of Salmonella species.

The assay's workflows have been validated for a broad range of human foods, pet food, including large test portions, and environmental samples by AOAC International and ISO 16140-2:2016 according to NF VALIDATION™ by AFNOR Certification and by MicroVal™ Certification. The assay is also certified for primary production samples by NF Validation™ by AFNOR Certification.

The new SureTect assay format incorporates color-coded plastics with orientation markings and breakable strip format and colored reagents and pierceable seals to enable an optimized workflow for maximum laboratory efficiency and productivity.

Food microbiology testing methods: Salmonella species

Effective detection and confirmation methods for Salmonella are crucial for public health and food safety. In this guide, Thermo Fisher Scientific illustrates a simple outline of the ISO reference method: ISO 6579-1:2017 (Horizontal method for the detection of Salmonella species), including information about Thermo Scientific products that can be used according to the method. The guide also details alternative methods, validated according to ISO 16140-2:2016 standard, that are available from Thermo Fisher Scientific.

SureTect Salmonella species PCR Assay workflow NF VALIDATION: ISO 16140-2:2016

The Thermo Scientific™ SureTect™ Salmonella species PCR Assay workflow has been certified by NF VALIDATION for the detection of Salmonella species from meat, dairy, seafood, vegetables, raw beef meats with and without aromatics, production environment samples and powdered infant formula samples. This application note gives a summary of the validation studies performed to gain NF VALIDATION.

Salmonella detection from large milk powder samples

Due to their ability to survive heating and desiccation, Salmonella and Cronobacter contamination is a concern for powdered infant formula (PIF), milk powders and their individual ingredients. In this application note, two studies are presented that evaluate the performance of the SureTect Salmonella species PCR Assay for the detection of Salmonella serovars from 375 g samples of milk powders, in comparison to ISO 6579-1:2017.
