The world’s most innovative and effective clinical diagnostics technologies have been recognized during a special ceremony at the 2022 AACC Annual Scientific Meeting & Clinical Lab Expo. Winners of the 2022 Scientists’ Choice Awards® were announced live by SelectScience Vice President, Jay Leech, and Senior Associate Editor, Sonia Nicholas.

Now in their 15th year, the awards are unique in the industry as they are chosen by scientists and healthcare professionals. Each year, we invite scientists around the globe to participate by nominating, reviewing, and voting for the lab products that have had the greatest impact on their work. This year, more scientists and clinical professionals than ever got involved — read on to reveal their chosen winners.

Best New Clinical Instrumentation of 2021

The award for Best New Clinical Instrumentation of 2021 goes to the CFX™ Opus 96 Dx System from Bio-Rad, as voted for by clinical scientists around the world.

The CFX™ Opus 96 Dx System offers flexibility in commercial assay selection or rapid assay development in a clinical laboratory setting and can multiplex up to 5 targets per well.

Best New Clinical Assay/Kit of 2021

The award for Best New Clinical Assay/Kit of 2021 goes to the SafeCollect™ At-Home Sample Collection Kits from Zymo Research, as voted for by clinical scientists around the world.

The DNA/RNA Shield™ technology in the SafeCollect™ Kits is designed to completely inactivate harmful pathogens in the sample and stabilize the RNA for up to 30 days at room temperature. Reviewers' Choice: Clinical Company of the Year

This year’s coveted Reviewers’ Choice Award for Clinical Company of the Year goes to Streck Inc., in acknowledgment of the consistently positive feedback it has received from clinical scientists sharing their opinions via reviews on the SelectScience website over the past year.

Clinical Video Interview of the Year – in association with The Scientists’ Channel

This year’s winning video ‘High-sensitivity cardiac troponin assays and the power of point of care in the emergency department’ is an interview with Dr. Frank Peacock, emergency physician and vice chief of research at Baylor College of Medicine.

In the winning video, produced in association with Siemens Healthineers, Peacock discusses the importance of cardiac troponin as a biomarker for myocardial infarction, highlights the benefits of high-sensitivity versus contemporary troponin assays, and shares why point-of-care testing is a powerful tool in the emergency department.

Clinical Webinar Series of the Year

This year’s Webinar Series of the Year is awarded to Technopath Clinical Diagnostics. The webinar series, titled ‘A series of three webinars on internal quality control practices and application in clinical laboratory’, available to watch on demand, discusses advanced topics in quality control practice and applications in the clinical lab as well as solutions for automated reagent tracking, and features talks by Prof. Dr. med. Dipl. Biol. Astrid Petersmann, Head of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine, University of Oldenburg.

Clinical Editorial Article of the Year

This year’s winning article is titled ‘SARS-CoV-2 variants: Are Ct values an unused piece of the profiling puzzle?’ and features technology from LGC Biosearch Technologies.

In this interview, Dr. Padmapriya Banada, Assistant Professor at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, explores the potential of cycle threshold values and reveals her melt-based assay alternative.

Clinical Application eBook of the Year

The Clinical eBook of the Year Award goes to Waters Corporation for ‘Clinical LC-MS: Routine diagnostics made simple’. This application compendium illustrates the importance of LC-MS in the clinical diagnostics hospital laboratory, outlining the technology available to support you throughout the LC-MS workflow.

Clinical Email of the Year

The winner in the Email of the Year category goes to ‘Molecular Diagnosis of Infectious Diseases’, from HAMILTON Robotics. The winning email featured a free download of a new eBook on how automation can help standardize the performance of your workflows for nucleic acid extraction, qPCR and NGS.

“At Hamilton Robotics, we believe that the best way to explain our products' value is by putting them in the direct context of their use and telling our customers' stories. The topic "Molecular Diagnosis of Infectious Diseases" attracted a lot of interest due to the COVID pandemic, but molecular diagnosis is overall an increasingly adopted technology in the medical practice.
