The Thermo Scientific TruScan RM Raman overall is an excellent analytical device
Pharmaceutical
The Thermo Scientific TruScan RM Raman handheld device is easy to use overall. Additionally - analytical results are reproducible and efficient! Being able to reduce cycle times from testing/release is very important from a customer basis. One 'user friendly' improvement that could be made is to offer the ability to connect an external keyboard that would be possible with the addition of a USB port.

Process monitoring from raw materials to finished products in biopharma
As part of current good manufacturing practice (cGMP), many pharmaceutical manufacturers are adopting process analytical technologies (PAT), quality by design (QbD), or process validation (PV) to provide continuous process verification and analysis. Analytical instruments may be used for at-line and in-process monitoring to bring the technology to the sample to speed up the analysis process and enable more flexibility from a smaller footprint. Discover efficient process monitoring solutions in biopharmaceutical production with Thermo Scientific analyzers and bioreactors.
Probabilistic evaluation – First principles vs. empirical
Explore the fundamentals and performance characterization of the Thermo Scientific™ TruScan™ Handheld Raman Analyzers. Discover what makes this analyzer unique and learn how you can put the power of spectroscopy into the hands of new users, without extensive training.
Probabilistic approach for material verification and identification in pharmaceutical applications
Spectroscopic material verification is a critically important analytical application within the pharmaceutical industry because of the adoption of standards such as the Pharmaceutical Inspection Co-operation Scheme (PIC/S), Annex 8. PIC/S Annex 8 requires that individual samples be taken from all incoming containers and an identity test be performed on each sample. Individual container identity testing puts drastically higher demands on expert analysts’ time.
Discover how Thermo Scientific™ TruScan™ Handheld Raman Analyzers use advanced processing during both data collection and analysis to ensure that sound statistical judgment supports every material-verification decision. They can enable nonexperts to positively verify the identity of materials at the point of receipt, increasing an organization’s throughput and cycle time.
How to Verify 3 Different Opadry Whites Using a Handheld Raman Analyzer
In this application note, learn how TruScan RM with TruTools is used to analyze a number of Opadry film coatings that are widely used by pharmaceutical manufacturers.
Stearates Verification Using a Handheld Raman Analyzer
Magnesium stearate, calcium stearate, and zinc stearate are frequently used in the pharmaceutical industry as lubricants for capsules and tablets, but share a similar chemical structure which makes them challenging to verify. In this application note, various stearates were successfully identified by utilizing a customizable principle component analysis (PCA) method on the Thermo ScientificTM TruScanTM RM Handheld Raman Analyzer.
Opadry Verification Using a Handheld Raman Analyzer
The TruScan RM analyzer provides manufacturers with fast and accurate material verification, minimizing the need for time-consuming laboratory sampling tests. In this application, a Principal Component Analysis (PCA) method was found to be successful in identifying Opadry orange from Opadry green.
Analytical Methods for Field-Based Material Identification and Verification
Current field-based chemical identification instruments for pharmaceutical applications typically use one of three analytical methodologies: hit quality index (HQI), traditional chemometrics, or the Thermo Scientific probabilistic approach. This white paper compares HQI and the Thermo Scientific probabilistic approach, leaving the comparison between probability and traditional chemometrics to a separate white paper.
