Smart design and easy to use, better than a NanoDrop.
Rating: 4.7

  • Application Area:Testing protein, amino acid and bacterial concentration

"We have found this device to be incredibly easy to use and intuitive while offering a wide range of features. Reads are reliable and consistent. The convenience of an on board screen and internal battery (allowing it to be moved to anyone's desk temporarily) can not be over stated. There's a lot of functionality in this little machine and we are very happy with it."

All the students in the lab love it!!
Rating: 5.0

  • Application Area:Kinetics and quantification of small biomolecules, proteins and aptamers

"Implen N80 is a very handy spectrophotometer. It's reliable, standalone, with a friendly and logical interface human-machine that works even unplugged to the electric power thanks to the batteries. There's no need to dilute high concentrated samples as the analysis by the nanodrop compartment can adjust the path length. It's also possible to conduct experiments inside a cuvette even at 37ºC. Data can be exported wirelessly or by using a flash drive. Amazing!! I liked it so much that I'm considering to buy a second one."

Great value for the investment and versatile instrument that takes little space.
Rating: 5.0

  • Application Area:Teaching Analytical Chemistry, Forensic Science Research, Biochemistry research

"The product is very easy to use and operate. It has both the cuvette option and microdroplet option that works with several organic solvents. The software interface is very intuitive and easy to navigate with emphasis on biochemical and microbiological applications. The droplet mode works with two different type and microvolumes. The cuvette can be used for kinetic study at 37 C. There is even a vortexer for quick mixing. The design was very considerate for the users. The battery power also lasts a long time. The space it takes is minimal."

Love the new design, easy to use!
Rating: 5.0

  • Application Area:Functional group quantification in organic aerosols

"We used to have the NanoPhotometer P300, which worked well for us - but upgrading to the new NP80 was such a great choice. The changes to the instrument have made our analyses much easier and more efficient. Especially the new design for the sample platform has made a huge difference."

Great value and user friendly
Rating: 4.7

  • Application Area:Measure concentration of extracted nucleic acids

"Great machine! I love the ability to switch between cuvettes and microvolumes, operating it on the touch screen and using a computer to do so. My only issue with the machine was the inability to edit the sample name when mistakes are made but that has been resolved by the new software."

Great, reliable and quick results, thoroughly recommend this device.
Rating: 5.0

  • Application Area:Used in molecular biology applications

"This item is easy, quick and reliable to use and gives accurate results 99% of the time, with the remaining 1% being due to human error (quantifying unthawed samples). We have tested it side-by-side with another industry leading device which utilised fluorescence and the results were comparable. The device has a wide variety of applications of which we have used most of these and they are all of a similar quality."

Perfect nano-photometer for low-surface tension detergent or lipid solutions.
Rating: 5.0

  • Application Area:Absorbances of proteins complexed to lipids

"Great product for taking OD when you don't have a lot of surface tension in the sample. We use lipids and detergents a lot in our protein preps, so the surface tension is lost and its really hard to test optical density on a "normal" nanodrop. Since the Implen device doesn't need surface tension (it has a quartz stage upon which the sample sits), solutions with detergents or lipids work great. Great value for the money, I love it."

First impression, nice!
Rating: 4.0

  • Application Area:Working on DNA samples

"The results obtained are very much similar to the Nanodrop. In fact, it is easier to use. With the build-in vortex, it comes in handy. I do not need to search around the bench for my vortex. Plus, the portable ability really opened my eyes, IMPLEN can really make it, it's not a dream anymore. Impressive and keep up the good job."

Great results and very accurate!
Rating: 5.0

  • Application Area:Protein assays and concentrations

"I love love love this machine. It's portable, idiot proof, and accurate. For its DNA analysis, it is much more accurate than the old familiar, Nanodrop. I love the fact that it is so modifiable and easy to use. We use it for a variety of functions in the lab, including Bradford assays. I really love that there is a built-in graph for these and that you can email it to yourself or save on a USB stick. This machine is the thing we have all been needing but never knew we missed. Also the customer care is outstanding and I look forward to our rep every time she comes."

I love these machines. They make my job easier.
Rating: 5.0

  • Application Area:teaching lab/upper divisional Bioc lab

"We have 8 and I am very pleased with how easy they are to use. This is a new product for our students and they are able to follow the directions we give them and get results. With any new piece of equipment, there is a learning curve, but it's a small one once they are comfortable using them. I like the fact that they are easy to demo, easy to install updates, and easy to troubleshoot. Compared to our old specs, these save the students time, they get results quickly, each group has their own NanoPhotometer at their station so they don't have to bring their supplies to the spec as we did in the past. I do not get complaints like I did with our other specs and I know that I can always get help when needed. My sales rep is fantastic."

Love the ability to save the results to excel!
Rating: 4.0

  • Application Area:analyze wavelength of colorimetric samples, and quantification of DNA/RNA samples

"The nanophotometer is extremely effective for use as a spectrophotometer. I use it to measure the wavelength on colorimetric assays regularly and have found it easy to use. The exception of its ease of use being that sometimes the software will not easily connect to the desktop computer we use as the interface, receiving error that requires reboots, and the user manual does not explain some of the available program settings well. Once a protocol has been created for the settings needed to run specific samples, the device is simple to use. After sales care has been relatively sparse, with only occasional software updates, which is nice, and as I was not involved in the purchase of the device, or any cost-analysis, I have no opinion on the value for money."

Great instruments, little improvements for cGMP only recommended
Rating: 4.7

  • Application Area:Nucleic Acid detection, DNA QC and quantification mostly

"We have the NP80 for almost a year now and are very happy with it. I've used different products including the Nanodrop and the previous Implen Pearl design in the past and the NP80 is by far my preferable product. Main reasons for this are: - small & can run independent of an extra PC - has an integrated Vortex for sample dilution/adjustment - very nice interface (intuitive, clean, lots of functionality easily available) - I'm a fan of the recent addition of the quality control features where it warns you if more obscure ratios of 230/260 or such indicate the sample might have an issue with an explanation what it might be All that in a reliable, easy to clean piece of equipment. 4 out of 5 starts for After Sales Care only because we are under cGMP requirements and the documentation of changes for new software versions is not sufficient to determine if an existing IQOQ is still active afterwards, that needed some discussion with Implen to sort and get the necessary information - but I believe that will improve, the requirements are just novel to them. And while the good IQOQ package is good it needs some work between the Excel and hardcopy consistency."
