Great time-saver, great cost-saver in the long run.
Pharmaceutical Sciences
The Luna FX7 is an incredible asset for any lab that works on human cells. Compared to manually counting cells on a hemocytometer which can take almost half an hour per sample, this equipment, like other automated cell counters, can do that in less than a few seconds and do all the required cell concentration calculations at the same time. But where this wins over other automated cell counters are recurring costs and convenience. Even though the initial unit is quite pricey, the fact that this can accommodate 8 sample slides kills two birds with one stone: - It greatly pushes down the cost of each sample counted to just a few cents. - It allows automated counting of multiple related samples all at one go. Overall, this automated cell counter is a very worthwhile investment to enhance the speed and value of any lab that works on human cells.

Streamlined aggregated cell analysis using SpectraSlide AP-1 and the LUNA-FX7 automated cell counter
One of the most significant challenges in image-based cell counting is the difficulty in accurately segmenting cell aggregates. This issue is pronounced when working with cancer cell lines like AsPC-1 (pancreatic adenocarcinoma) and H-1975 (non-small cell lung carcinoma), which naturally tend to form tight clusters during culture.
In this application note, Logos Biosystems highlights how the SpectraSlide® AP-1, when paired with the LUNA-FX7™, delivers accurate, reproducible results even for highly aggregated cancer cell models like AsPC-1 and H-1975.
Validation of SpectraSlide AP-1 for reliable CHO-K1 and HEK293 cell counting and viability assays
Mammalian cell lines such as CHO-K1 and HEK293 are essential for the production of therapeutic proteins, monoclonal antibodies, and viral vectors, and are widely utilized in biopharmaceutical research and development. These cell lines are preferred for their robust protein expression, human-compatible post-translational modifications, and suitability for both transient and stable expression systems.
In this application note, Logos Biosystems evaluates the performance of the SpectraSlide® AP-1 for viability and concentration analysis of CHO-K1 and HEK293 cells using the LUNA-FX7™, and compare its results to those obtained with the PhotonSlide™.
Optimized cell counting and viability analysis of large, complex A172 glioblastoma cells using the SpectraSlide AP-1 and LUNA-FX7™ automated cell counter
Accurate assessment of cell concentration and viability is vital in cancer research, drug development, and immunotherapy, underpinning the evaluation of experimental outcomes and therapeutic efficacy. However, cell models with large and complex morphologies—such as A172 glioblastoma cells—are challenging to analyze with standard viability assays.
In this study, we compared the SpectraSlide® AP-1 and PhotonSlide™ for cell concentration and viability analysis. Using the A172 glioblastoma cell model, we validated the precision and performance of the SpectraSlide® AP-1.
Evaluation of the SpectraSlide AP-1 for accurate counting of splenocytes and isolated nuclei
Accurate quantification of tissue-derived samples such as splenocytes and isolated nuclei is essential for a variety of downstream applications, including immunological assays, single-nucleus RNA sequencing (snRNA-seq), and ATAC-seq. Because of their small size, these samples are particularly difficult for image-based cell counters to analyze reliably, requiring both sensitivity and consistency.
This application note, Logos Biosystems evaluates the performance of the SpectraSlide® AP-1 paired with the LUNA-FX7™, focusing on its effectiveness in analyzing tissue-derived samples including splenocytes and isolated nuclei.
Evaluation of the SpectraSlide AP-1for accurate counting of HL60 and Jurkat cells
Accurate quantification of suspension cell lines such as HL60 and Jurkat Cells are essential for a variety of applications in immunology, hematology, and other cell-based assays.
In this application note, Logos Biosystems compares the performance of the SpectraSlide® AP-1 against the PhotonSlide™ for viability and concentration analysis of HL60 and Jurkat Cells using the LUNA-FX7™.
Introducing the SpectraSlide AP-1: A convenient one-touch solution for rapid cell analysis
Automated cell counters, like the LUNA-FX7™, have revolutionized cell counting by replacing traditional labor-intensive methods. However, the process still requires additional labware and staining dyes, which can be challenging for beginners and those with limited access to laboratory resources.
In this study, Logos Biosystems conducted a comparative analysis of SpectraSlide® AP-1 and PhotonSlide™, as PhotonSlide™ is already widely used as a standard for cell counting. Using U937 and PBMC samples, we assessed their linearity in measuring cell concentration and viability to validate the precision and effectiveness of the SpectraSlide® AP-1.
