Somatic cell counting using the LUNA-FX7 Automated Cell Counter

28 May 2026

This application note demonstrates how the LUNA-FX7™ automated cell counter can be used to accurately measure somatic cell count (SCC) in milk samples. Using a fluorescence-based staining approach with propidium iodide, the system enables reliable detection of somatic cells while minimizing interference from fat and protein debris. Results show strong correlation with flow cytometry-based methods, offering a practical alternative for SCC analysis.
