Tecan’s Freedom EVO series of automated workstations offer unrivalled processing speed and flexibility thanks to a unique feature that allows two liquid handling (LiHa) arms to act completely independently. Each arm of eight variable-spacing pipetting tips can be adapted to handle high volumes, for example of cell culture media, as well as low volumes of precious reagents or samples.
The dual LiHa arms can run in parallel with the robotic manipulator (RoMa) arm which moves labware around the worktable, and are fully compatible with Tecan’s extensive range of application options, including storage elements, stirrers and incubation, separation or reading devices. This capability is a great asset for a variety of applications, including hit picking, serial dilutions, consecutive sample transfer and other aspects of assay preparation, and can greatly enhance the liquid handling power of any laboratory.
Viral Nucleic Acid Extraction at High Recovery Yields
In this application note Tecan and MACHEREY_NAGEL demonstrate an automated method to produce reliable isolation of viral DNA and RNA. This method provides high yields and pure viral nucleic acid using MACHEREY-NAGEL NucleoMag® 96 Virus kit on a Freedom EVO® platform from Tecan. The results of this study show that the method reduces risk of contamination while retaining flexibility.
Reliable Purification of PCR Products with High Yield and Purity Using the MACHEREY-NAGEL NucleoSpin® 96 PCR Clean-up kit on a Freedom EVO® Platform
PCR has become a standard molecular biology tool for biological and medical research laboratories, and is used for DNA cloning, sequencing and genetic testing. For most applications, PCR products need to be purified, and this is advantageous to perform in a high throughput format. Fully automating the PCR product purification process on a Freedom EVO workstation streamlines laboratory workflows, enabling rapid, reliable purification of 96 samples in 50 min.
Automating ELISAs on Tecan’s Freedom EVO® Using Optimiser™ Technology from Siloam Biosciences
This application note describes the use of Tecan’s Freedom EVO workstation and Siloam Biosciences’ Optimiser technology for the automation of ELISAs. Performance benefits, including improved pipetting precision at very low volumes, precise control of dispensing times, and operation of the repeat load process are demonstrated.
Mimicking Real Tissue Using 3D Cell Cultures Allows Cells to Grow and Propagate Better
Technological advances over the past couple of years have enabled 3D scaffolds to be engineered that create an in vivo proxy that is more realistically mimics living cellular environments. This application note demonstrates that the Freedom EVO workstation can simply and routinely process cell cultures in Alvetex Scaffold in a 96-well plate format. The results show that when combined these systems can provide cell biologists with higher throughput as well as higher level of standardization for both basic research and drug discovery.
