The pumps are one of the only LCs that allow for non-linear gradients, which is extremely helpful for difficult isomeric/isobaric separations. The dispersion is also much lower than other vendor systems. Another great thing is the small size and ease of consumable replacements - replacing check valves and other components is easy. The diagnostic tests and suggested actions for troubleshooting also make repairs easy for even novice users. The only room for improvements are making the pump seals easier to access, as well as making tubing connections easier to twist in the BSM. These are minor compared to the ruggedness of this LC."

However it is very useful connected to a ToF Mass Spec for Proteomics I have seen great results for peptide ID it tends to handle buffers better than other systems. "

"The sample derivatization method is easy to implement. The separation of amino acids with UPLC worked immediately without any method tuning or problems. The cleaning procedure of the UPLC after other analyses is quite demanding (takes one day), so maybe not be very applicable if the instrument is used also for other analyses or at least demands good planning of the instrument use. The eluents are quite expensive and according to label suitable for use for one month after opening. Thus method is quite expensive if analyses are done rarely."
