Agilent BioTek 800 TS Absorbance Reader by Agilent Technologies

"Initially, the 800 TS microplate reader was a necessary purchase as the laboratory was required to upgrade from the ELx800 model. The previous model functioned beautifully - worked to specification, user-friendly and robust! But due to the company no longer supporting the older models (which were produced more than two decades ago), an upgrade was imminent. At first, we were apprehensive as we trusted old faithful. However, upon training and use of the instrument we were actually so grateful to have upgraded. The 800 TS is an exceptional next-generation piece of instrument manufactured by an equally exceptional company. BioTek manufactures robust, precise, easy-to-use and most importantly, affordable washer/reader equipment. BioTek instruments are distributed by Analytical Diagnostic Products in South Africa. They offer unparalleled after-sales support. The 800 TS microplate reader is used for various diagnostic (Leptospira spp.) and surveillance (Yersinia pestis, Brucella spp.) applications of communicable zoonotic diseases in human and animal populations. The upgrade was pretty seamless (thank goodness!!) as the new reader was compatible with the GEN5 software and absorbance test plate for calibration that were already in use with the ELx800. The 800 TS delivered high quality read-outs (96-well formats) with expanded data collection and analysis capability and very low maintenance. The reader had a fancy little touchscreen which was easily programmed with our assay methods. It featured temperature control and a shaking platform which made our time-interval assays a breeze! With our more sophisticated assays (with extended wavelength ranges), the reader proved to be a workhorse for high-throughput read-outs with excellent reliability and sensitivity. We could easily back-up all data via the USB port and the instant recall of recent read-outs was really helpful. Recently, we converted our kit-based method (which was discontinued) for validating our readers and washers to the internal BioTek pre-programmed liquid tests. This was absolutely incredible as we required our instruments to be validated on a monthly basis to uphold accreditation. ADP and BioTek ensure our annual instrument servicing is conducted as seamlessly as possible and within good turn-around-time. BioTek readers are very reliable, accurate, fast and portable for field work. The build quality is robust at an affordable price and I am sure will last for the next 20 years!"
