RapidFinder™ Salmonella Species, Typhimurium and Enteritidis Multiplex PCR Kit includes:

Comparison of the Thermo Scientific RapidFinder Salmonella Multiplex PCR Kit with PCR kits from other suppliers

Identification of Salmonella serotypes is not only used for reporting during outbreaks but is also important in evaluating root causes of incidents on a local and global scale. Historically, the serotype identification of Salmonella has used serological techniques while modern approaches include molecular tests such as PCR for confirmation of serotype. The most commonly occurring Salmonella serovars in poultry and pork are Salmonella Typhimurium and Salmonella Enteritidis which account for the majority of US outbreaks.

This application note compares the Thermo Scientific™ RapidFinder™ Salmonella species, Typhimurium and Enteritidis Multiplex PCR Kit to four other commercially available PCR methods. PCR kits are compared for differences in necessary equipment, bench-space needed, number and duration for sample handling steps, method complexity and certification provided by AOAC-RI and AFNOR NF VALIDATION. The PCR methods are also compared for multiplex capability and total sample throughput.

Performance evaluation of Thermo Scientific RapidFinder Multiplex PCR Kits for the detection of Salmonella from primary production samples

This study evaluates the performance of the Thermo Scientific™ RapidFinder™ Salmonella Species, Typhimurium and Enteritidis Multiplex PCR Kit and RapidFinder Salmonella Species, Typhimurium and Enteritidis Multiplex PCR Flex Kit in detection of Salmonella, including Salmonella Typhimurium and Salmonella Enteritidis, from PPS. Two methods were evaluated: a one-day method utilizing the Thermo Scientific™ KingFisher Flex™ Purification System (validated according to NF VALIDATION by AFNOR Certification) and a two-day method utilizing a secondary enrichment in MKTTn. Both methods were compared to ISO 6579:2017.
