Multi EA® 5000 - Future Technology Available Now

Modern techniques for sum parameter and elemental analysis are increasingly applied in environmental monitoring, as well as in process and quality control. The challenge facing modern analytical systems lies in reliable automation for an extensive range of samples. Analytik Jena present the Multi EA 5000 Elemental Analyzer as a solution to this challenge.

Application NoteLab Informatics

Determine total contents in used cooking oil

Used cooking oil (UCO), encompassing various oils and fats poses challenges if improperly disposed. Recently, UCO has transformed from waste to a valuable raw material for sustainable fuels and organic chemicals. However, UCO must meet quality standards, free of hazardous elements, necessitating robust analysis techniques like combustion elemental analysis for accurate determination of nitrogen, sulfur, and chlorine contents. Fraudulent practices may occur, highlighting the importance of continuous analysis to detect impurities and ensure quality. Fujirebio highlights the multi-element analyzer multi EA 5100, offering a reliable solution for analyzing highly viscous matrices like UCO, enabling simultaneous determination of sulfur and nitrogen and sequential determination of chlorine, crucial for ensuring compliance with quality standards and environmental regulations.

Determination of total halogens in used oil

While two analytical methods and systems are necessary for the digestion in a calorimetric bomb and the subsequent detection of the halogens (e.g. by means of IC), in this application note, Analytik Jena presents a method which has the advantage of combining digestion and detection in only one analytical step in a single system.

Determination of Total Chlorine in Palm Oil with the Elemental Analyzer Multi EA 5000

Used as a food ingredient, palm oil is subject to strict quality and food safety controls. Besides the determination of antioxidants, water content or trace metals (Pb, As, Cd and Hg), the determination of total chlorine also plays an important role. In this application note, organic elemental analysis — coupling oxidative combustion and micro-coulometric detection using the multiEA 5000 — is used to determine chlorine in palm oil.

Elemental Determination and Quality Control using Elemental Analyzer Multi EA 5000; Success Story

The Dow Chemical Company (Dow) has been employing Analytik Jena AG instruments for the past 15 years, maintaining the highest of standards in the quality of its products and processes, its worker safety, and its environment protection. This case study describes how Dow utilises the versatile Multi EA® 5000 Elemental Analyzer to determine important elements in raw materials and intermediate and finished products, to control the quality of these products.

Calibration Strategies for Liquefied Pressurized Gases (LPG) with the Multi EA® 5000

This application notes describes two methods of calibration for the determination of sulfur in a sample of LPG. LPGs of known concentrations can be used as standards for calibration, or a common liquid standard can be used. However, whatever method is used, it is important to preserve the parameters of the gas measurement method so they are identical to the parameters of the liquid calibration.

Application NoteMaterials

Determination of Nitrogen Content in Heavy Petroleum Fractions

Heavy petroleum is very difficult to extract and analyze due to its high viscosity and high nitrogen content, and requires specialized strategies for quality control. The high nitrogen content in particular can slow down the refining process through poisoning of catalysts. This application note explains a modified combustion process to help with processing these 'difficult' matrices.

Breakthrough technology to make industrial multi-element analysis faster and easier

In this video, Oliver Büttel, from Analytik Jena, presents the new multi EA 5100 elemental analyzer which is able to determine carbon, nitrogen, sulfur, and chlorine in solid, liquid and gaseous samples. Unveiled at Pittcon 2020 and set for release on April 1, 2020, the multi EA 5100 features a modular design and is designed to optimize the combustion of every individual sample, offering high-sensitivity analysis, speed and application flexibility across multiple fields such as the oil and gas, petrochemical and chemical, and polymer industries.
