Very good product

Average Rating 4.0

Application Area:

Control and inventory of the particle sizes of our raw materials

Intuitive device Easy to use and clean on a daily basis Rapid analysis

Review Date: 2 Mar 2026 | Malvern Panalytical

Great instrument to measure particle size distribution.

Average Rating 4.0

Application Area:

Measuring particle size distribution of powder ingredients and foodstuff in form of different emulsions.

The wet system is easy to operate. The dry measurements are a bit harder. Especially setting up an SOP for dry measurements. I would like to be able to save a "Semi-SOP" for dry measurements were everything is saved except for the feeding speed since depending on powder properties of different batches of the same material can need completely different feeding speeds.

Review Date: 9 Feb 2026 | Malvern Panalytical

Fantastic instrument to use and analyze.

Average Rating 5.0

Application Area:

Particle size distribution

We have been using the instrument since many years. The instrument design and the user interface for the work-flows are made to the perfection. The after-sales care is very good and entire product-service is worth the price.

The Mastersizer 3000 is one of the world’s most widespread particle sizing instrument, used by many thousands of companies and research institutes across a wide range of industries. Malvern Panalytical’s considerable experience and applications know-how has gone into every stage of the design of the Mastersizer 3000 instrument, from fundamental particle sizing performance right through to user ergonomics and method advice.

The Mastersizer 3000 combines a stylish and compact design with lots of practical features to help you get the most out of your instrument. The Mastersizer 3000 uses the technique of laser diffraction to measure particle size distributions from 10 nm up to 3.5 mm.

Grating-coupled interferometry – the weak fragment hit biosensor assay

Grating-coupled interferometry (GCI) is ideally suited for fragment-based drug discovery due to inherent sensitivity of the detection principle, and the ability to capture fast transitions. It uses the refractive index changes that occur with protein binding and are measured as time-dependent phase-shift signals. Explore how the Creoptix® WAVEsystem combines GCI with innovative no-clog microfluidics, permitting the study of biomolecular interactions using crude, unpurified samples, or in complex matrices, such as serum, plasma, or cell supernatant. The WAVEsystem uses a robust sensor and microfluidics cartridge, the WAVEchip®, with four parallel flow channels, available in different surface matrix chemistries suitable for diverse applications, such as protein, antibody, VLPs, lipids, and others.

Optimizing Metal Powders for Additive Manufacturing

Additive manufacturing is ‘the process of joining materials to make objects from 3D model data, usually layer upon layer, as opposed to subtractive manufacturing methodologies such as machining’. Identifying analytical tools that can be used to reliably set specifications for AM metal powders to validate quality and manage their use is vital. In this white paper, Malvern Instruments reviews the key processes used in AM and how they determine the requirements of metal powders for this application.

Particle Size Analysis of Cement Using the Laser Diffraction Technique

The critical strength and curing properties of cement are dependent on the particle size distribution resulting from the grinding phase. In this application note, laser diffraction was used to measure particle size in samples of the raw mix and two cement blends using the Mastersizer 2000. It demonstrates that laser diffraction is a fast and effective technique for measuring the particle size of cement. Additionally, the broad size measuring range of the Mastersizer 2000 meant that the same lens could be used to measure particle size in the raw mix as well as extra fine cement grades.

Effective Characterization of Casein Micelles and Fat Globules in Milk using Laser Diffraction

To improve its shelf-life, milk undergoes a homogenization process. This process produces fat globules of a uniform, small size. Milk also contains casein micelles, which play a role in stabilizing the fat globules. The size of the fat globules and the proportion of free casein micelles are important parameters for monitoring the homogenization process. Find out how these can be measured by laser diffraction, in this application note.

This whitepaper describes the drawbacks of sieving, and how a move to laser diffraction technology can optimize manufacturer’s analytical productivity and efficiency. It compares sieving to laser diffraction and details five reasons why laser diffraction is superior in most manufacturing settings. These include faster analysis, increased measurement range and better measurement resolution.
