5um 50x3 and 2.6um 30x2.1 columns
Forensic and Clinical Toxicology
Great line of columns for separation. Column life of the 5um 50x3 in our high throughput lab though is a downside. The 2.6um 30x2.1 is great for getting quicker methods without sacrificing needed separation.

Manufacturer's Response
Hello Wade, thank you for taking the time to review our Kinetex Biphenyl. Glad to hear that the Biphenyl provided selectivity for your analysis, however I am sorry that the observed lifetime was not what you expected. Lifetime is critical to us and we have developed a couple techniques that can cost effectively increase observed lifetime. We are here to help and have live technical support available at www.phenomenex.com/chat. Please do not hesitate to contact us, that is what we are here for.
Enhances Separation
Kinetex Biphenyl can take you where traditional C18’s can’t. With a smart combination of hydrophobic, aromatic, and polar selectivity, it offers extra separation power for any reversed phase method.
High Performance
Kinetex Biphenyl offers the HPLC/UHPLC performance benefits of a core-shell particle with a unique stationary phase that will become your go-to selectivity for reversed phase method development.
Reliable Productivity
Ensure dependability within your high throughput methods and comprehensive screens with the ruggedness and reliability of Kinetex Biphenyl.
Aqueous Stable
While water may be hard for a C18 to handle, the Kinetex Biphenyl allows you to dive straight into the deep end with 100 % aqueous stability.
Your Next LC Column
With incredible core-shell and selectivity benefits, the Kinetex Biphenyl was truly designed to be your new go-to reversed phase column.

Quantitative analysis of designer benzodiazepines in urine by LC-MS/MS
In this poster, Phenomenex focuses on tracking designer benzodiazepine substances obtained illicitly. LC-MS/MS techniques are crucial for the proper identification and quantitation due to cross reactivity with benzodiazepine immunoassay kits. The study targets 14 compounds in urine using high-sensitivity fast LC analysis. A Kinetex™ Biphenyl LC column is used for chromatographic separation, coupled with a SCIEX® 4500 triple quad for MS/MS detection.
Separation of synthetic benzodiazepines by SPE and LC-MS/MS
In this application note, Phenomenex focuses on tracking and detecting synthetic benzodiazepines using effective LC-MS/MS techniques. The study quantifies 14 compounds in a urine matrix with high-sensitivity using fast LC analysis. The panel includes 13 "synthetic" benzodiazepines, and Alprazolam is added for necessary differentiation. Strata®-X-Drug B Plus is chosen as the ideal SPE plate, and a Kinetex® Biphenyl LC column is used for chromatographic separation.
Comparison of two clean up techniques and a quick analysis of 39 pain management drugs from serum
In this application note, serum was cleaned up and compared with both a single protein precipitation protocol and also by the addition of a phospholipid removal product. The analysis was analyzed with a Kinetex 2.6 µm Biphenyl LC column to show the separation similarities. The phospholipid traces show the differences between the two clean up techniques and displays why Phree is a necessary addition to the clean up steps along with the comparative recoveries for the two techniques.
In-well hydrolysis and clean up of 39 pain management drugs
In this application note, Strata-X-Drug B Plus Solid Phase Extraction (SPE) is used for an easy clean up solution for the urine sample matrix. It uses an in-well beta glucuronidase hydrolysis to save time and transfer steps. The SPE method does not require conditioning or equilibrations steps for additional times savings. When combined with a core shell Kinetex Biphenyl column, recoveries are between 71 112% and good separation of analytes.
Fast clean up of whole blood using Phree Phospholipid Removal and analysis of 39 pain management drugs
Whole blood is a common matrix for toxicology testing, yet it can be very complicated to clean up. Using Phree Phospholipid Removal as a pass through with an easy protein precipitation, the whole blood matrix is efficiently cleaned up while still yielding high recoveries and low variation before analysis on LC MS/MS using a Kinetex Biphenyl LC column.
Aflatoxins from Cannabis by LC-MS/MS using Kinetex 2.6 μm LC Column
Food samples may contain naturally harmful substances such as mycotoxins. In this application note, a method was demonstrated for the monitoring of four target mycotoxins in cannabis products.
Rapid Extraction of Corticosteroids from Urine using a Strata RP On-Line Solid Phase Extraction Column
This application note demonstrates the preparation and extraction of corticosteroids from urine samples using Phenomenex Solid Phase Extraction (SPE) and Kinetex Core-Shell LC Columns.
Separation of 10 Cannabinoids by LC-MS/MS using Kinetex a 2.6 μm Biphenyl LC Column
In this technical note, Phenomenex demonstrates a method for LC-MS/MS analysis of cannabinoids with the Kinetex Biphenyl core-shell column.
Clinical Sample Preparation Guide
This application note discusses sample preparation techniques for a variety of clinical samples for simplified liquid extractions (SLE) and solid phase extraction (SPE).
Comprehensive LC/MS/MS Analysis of Over 180 Pesticides with a Kinetex® Biphenyl Core-Shell LC Column
Multi-class pesticide screens are a very common environmental and food-based analysis that serves to check and ensure the use of highly-regulated compounds in food stuffs and agricultural samples are safe. As pesticide residues are known to be potentially harmful to both human and animal health, the current trend of this analysis has focused on the use of very large LC/MS/MS screens for compound identification and quantification. This application note presents the Kinetex 5 µm biphenyl core-shell column, capable of a comprehensive screening of over 180 pesticides.
