I have become a big fan of Twist Clonal Genes after years of buying synthetic gene fragments from other companies and cloning them myself. Twist does the cloning and sequencing much faster than I ever did. I invest the time that Twist saves me into projects that cannot be outsourced, at least not yet. The process of onboarding custom vectors, which saves me the effort of subcloning, was easier and cheaper than I expected, and brought to my attention a discrepancy between a sequence that I was given and the actual sequence of a plasmid that I had been using for years. My only regret is that I didn't start using this service much earlier, but for that I have only myself to blame.

I have accumulated a large library of parts to rapidly design test and optimize hundreds of constructs that would have taken months to generate from scratch. CasSTAR: CRISPR-Cas12a diagnostics for antibiotic resistance (iGEM 2026)
We are an iGEM 2026 student team (iGEM Hamburg, TUHH and Universität Hamburg), and we received our Twist Clonal Genes through Twist's iGEM sponsorship rather than as a paid order. From start to finish the experience was excellent. Before ordering, we reached out with a number of questions, and Rebecca and Eric were both responsive, patient, and genuinely helpful. For a student team taking on a fairly ambitious project, that level of support made a real difference and was an important early step in getting our pipeline moving. The documentation was clear and thorough. The product quality has been outstanding. This week we completed transformation and after miniprep measured over 290 ng/µL, an unusually strong result for us. Everything arrived as described and performed exactly as we hoped. I ordered 8 plasmids based on a common (custom) backbone - all arrived faster than expected, with perfect sequences and at a much lower price than competitors. The sales reps before I made my purchase were helpful and efficient but not overbearing. My only criticism would be that they could have more options for stock vectors (e.g. AAV vectors).
