Poor documentation and support from the manufacturer.
Application Area: Illicit substance analysis
"Though the Torion T-9 is a novel instrument it is greatly hampered by an incredibly slow processor and poor documentation and support from the manufacturer."

Excellent instrumnet for on-site analysis.
Application Area:VOCs analysis from human exhaled breath
"It is a very user-friendly device. I utilized the instrument for VOCs analysis from exhaled breath. I used a needle trap device and also sometimes SPME fiber for the sample preparation for this purpose. The most important thing about this instrument is probably its ability to monitor the toxic compounds from the environment for on-site analysis. It could be operated by battery. Also, a small helium cylinder is provided to facilitate on-site analysis. After the experiments, the data can be processed very easily. One drawback of this device is probably the inability for automatic integration after analysis while the peak shape of the compound is not good enough or overlapped. You need to do a manual integration in that case. It takes some time while you are doing on-site analysis. However, it is acceptable as the instrument is designed to facilitate on-site sampling and analysis."

Great product from PerkinElmer
Application Area:Analyze metabolites in food samples
"This GC-MS from PerkinElmer is highly versatile and reproductive. The spare parts are very much available in a short amount of time and the service person is highly skilled."
The Torion® T-9 GC/MS is the world's smallest portable GC/MS, and is fast, reliable, and easy to use. The integrated system features a low thermal mass capillary gas chromatograph with high-speed temperature programming and a miniaturized toroidal ion trap mass spectrometer (TMS) with a mass range from 41 to 500 Daltons. Samples are injected using a novel CUSTODION® solid phase microextraction (SPME) fiber syringe or a needle trap (CUSTODION-NT).
Our entire Torion T-9 GC/MS system is totally self-contained, weighs 32 pounds, and is rechargeable battery operated. It is easy to operate, with a color touch screen user interface or a simple three button navigation. The system's speed and portability makes it ideal for analysis outside your lab.
