Works great for bulk and spatial isotope ratio and trace element analysis.

"The Laser Ablation system (LA) has a 100 cm3 cell which can accommodate larger objects for bulk and spatial surface analysis, including trace elements and isotope ratios. The downside is that a large cell purging leads to a carry over because of large volume. This effect limits the sensitivity of spatial analysis, with typical spatial resolution for our system of ~45 micrometers. The LA-ICP-MS works great for isotope ratio and trace element analysis of uranium and plutonium containing materials. The sensitivity is typically lower by about an order of magnitude compared with the aqueous solutions."
