Zetasizer allows quick, low volume measurements for single samples

Average Rating 4.0

Application Area:

Nanoparticle characterization

The equipment allows for the measurement of different types of samples with a wide range of concentrations. The use of different cuvettes allows to use as little as 40 microliters of sample which is really good when your samples are precious. Data generated is readily available and the software is fairly straightforward to use although some of the previous versions had features that this one doesn't seem to have like the possibility of correcting sample names in the graphs that was really handy for publications. If you are measuring multiple samples it can be a bit slow so a multi well or cassette system would be very helpful to speed up data acquisition.

Product Review for Malvern Panalytical Zetasizer Ultra Red (Used Device). I recently purchased a used Malvern Panalytical Zetasizer Ultra Red, and overall, I am extremely satisfied with the experience. The decision to buy a used device at a lower price was a fantastic opportunity, especially after receiving a thorough introduction to the product in our lab. The entire purchasing process was smooth, and I felt well supported by the contact person, who was always available and helpful. When the device arrived, I also became the primary user. We initially had some trouble reaching the support person for the user training, but thankfully, our previous contact quickly stepped in and provided us with an impromptu training session. This was handled very efficiently and in a friendly manner, making the process seamless. As for the device itself, we've encountered no issues so far. The only minor difficulty we faced was transferring old data to a new computer. While we did receive assistance with this as well, it would have been helpful to have a more detailed online guide available for such tasks. In summary, my experience with the Zetasizer Ultra Red has been overwhelmingly positive, both in terms of the product and customer support. I would highly recommend it, especially if you have access to the right support team!

I've been using Malvern Zetasizer's since 2014. I used two other brands of DLS instruments, but none of them were as user-friendly as the Zetasizer. My team recently had two trainings from Malvern. They were really helpful, and it was good to refresh our knowledge.

The Zetasizer Ultra is the world’s most capable combined DLS and ELS system, incorporating Non-Invasive Back Scatter (NIBS®) and, uniquely, Multi-Angle Dynamic Light Scattering (MADLS) technology for the measurement of particle and molecular size. NIBS provides the versatility and sensitivity to measure over a wide concentration range, while MADLS permits a higher resolution view into your sample’s size distribution for those critical measurements.

An extension to MADLS affords the ability to directly analyze particle concentration. The measurement of particle concentration is calibration-free, suitable for a wide range of materials, requires no or little dilution, and is quick to use – all of which make it ideal as a screening technique. This is a unique capability of the Zetasizer Ultra which can even be applied to samples such as viruses and VLPs, which were previously very challenging to measure.

The Zetasizer Ultra also provides the highest sensitivity zeta potential and electrophoretic mobility measurements using M3-PALS technology. Our affordable disposable folded capillary cells enable measurements in extremely low volumes, without direct sample-electrode contact, using our patented diffusion barrier method. The information provided by these measurements is an excellent indicator of sample stability and/or propensity to aggregate.

The addition of Constant Current Mode for measuring electrophoretic mobility and zeta potential in high conductivity media reduces errors that can be associated with electrode polarization at higher ion concentrations.

Measuring the concentration of adeno-associated virus with multi-angle dynamic light scattering

For virus development and production, it is important to know the virus concentration at different stages of the process, to optimize the clone used as well as the production yields. For example, instances such as clone screening, multiplicity of infection (MOI) optimization and adaptations of cell culture methods are instances when virus concentration, or virus titre as it is also commonly called, is of interest.
