Microbiology-blood cultures
The VersaTrek blood culture instrument is great. The instrument not only detects gas production for organism detection but also gas absorption, making it better equipped to detect organisms. We have detected Campylobacter on the VersTrek, which we never did on the other blood culture instrument we had previously. The instrument is extremely easy to use - loading bottles is just scanning 2 barcodes with no manual entry required. The cost of the consumables is less expensive than the other blood culture instrument we had previously and offers the hospital huge savings. Finally, due to the instrument's ability to accept such small volumes of blood, there is no need for a pediatric bottle. The aerobic bottle can be used for the pediatric draws, eliminating the need for 3 bottle types.
