Air generation for operation of GC with FID detector
This instrument is really easy to use, its reliable and robust, its high quality and can be used for long time without stop your analysis, even in months, however, it needs a better compressor, because this tends to fail or break and need to change it, each two or three years.

The compressor was the most problematic one of the modules. After six months of service, the drying membrane failed and needed to be replaced. The compressor was running continuously which diminishes greatly the operation hours. This happened a couple of times during the years. A new version of a dryer membrane was installed and the “development” was continued on site, some components were rearranged with the hope that the whole apparatus will be more stable. As a result, the new arrangement with the dryer membrane behind a reservoir, the compressor is running without some interruptions again, but seems to deliver the demanded flows and pressures. Still not sure if this is the way it is supposed to. We faced a lot of down times because of those failures (and the hydrogen generator too) and spent considerably funding to keep them operational. To sum it up: to have bench top instruments to provide gases for GCFID and GCMS and avoid the handling and purchase of gas cylinders, is still a very appealing idea and the way to go into a more sustainable future of laboratory work. However, in my opinion, the development of the compressor and the H2 generator was or is not adequately finished and it was a couple of years too early to bring those on the market. These instruments are not yet reliable and stable enough to base critical analytical task on them. The thorough search for alternatives and their reviews might be an advisable thing to do.

The Precision Air Compressor is designed and engineered specifically to provide a dedicated, fully integrated compressed air source for Precision Nitrogen and Precision Zero Air gas generators.
Housed within the same compact, stackable form factor as the generators, the Precision Air Compressor module can be added to any Precision stack – typically as the base unit – to give you a complete self-contained GC gas solution, even where no house supply is available.
Thanks to a unique duplex compressor mounting system, the Precision Air Compressor also benefits from low noise and vibration making it relatively quiet in operation within a typical laboratory.
