A great instrument for miniaturization of workflows

Average Rating 4.0

Application Area:

NGS, WGS of pathogens, ISO accredited environment

The instrument is very user friendly. Custom workflows can be programmed by lab technicians after an introduction, which is not possible for many other devices. While we use workflows provided by SPT Labtech, we also set up additional programs to make the daily life in the lab easier. The Mosquito allowed us to reduce consumable use significantly. We currently work in 96-well format and were able to reduce the volumes by a factor 5 to 10, depending on the protocol, the batch size and the plates used. SPT Labtech's technical support is very responsive and helped us efficiently to set up protocols that were not readily available. Compared to other liquid handlers we have in the lab, the Mosquito requires more hands on time as it is not intergrated with shakers, PCR machines and the like in our setup. Additional equipment could fill this gap but require further investments and space. Given the amount we save in term of consumables, the higher cost for technicians per samples is well compensated.

Genomics

The mosquito is wonderful, very easy to use once it is set up and calibrated correctly. I've been using it to dispense small volumes into 384 well plates - so happy not to do it by hand!

Enabling miniaturized molecular biology with our multi-talented liquid handler. mosquito® HV (High Volume) genomics offers highly accurate and precise multi-channel pipetting from 500 nL to 5 µL, leading to significant savings on precious reagents and time.

User friendly and flexible; low volume pipetting at your fingertips
mosquito® HV genomics provides you with highly accurate and precise low volume pipetting, picking up where traditional liquid handling falls down. mosquito can handle even highly viscous samples (e.g. genomic DNA or enzymes in 50% glycerol), operates with standard microwell plates and can be easily programmed to run a wide range of protocols, which makes mosquito an extremely versatile tool for any genomics lab.

Genomics the mosquito way; miniaturize to maximize
mosquito is changing the way genomics is done - the ability to accurately set up reactions at a fraction of the traditional volumes (often one tenth or less) leads to a step-change in productivity. NGS library preparation, magnetic bead cleanup, cDNA synthesis, whole genome amplification, PCR and qPCR all have been successfully automated and miniaturized with mosquito. Miniaturization leads to large cost savings and allows researchers to maximize their output of results for a given budget.

Application NoteLife Sciences

An introduction to miniaturization and automation of NGS library preparation workflows

In this application note, SPT Labtech provides an introduction to miniaturization and automation of next-generation sequencing (NGS) library preparation workflows. NGS has revolutionized the biological and medical sciences, offering superior throughput and greater affordability. Although there has been a considerable drop in the cost of whole-genome sequencing, and the time required, the fundamentals of NGS library preparation remain largely unchanged.

NGS workflows require precise and accurate liquid handling to support both high-throughput demands and sample preservation. Download this application note to learn how to automate and miniaturize NGS workflows, using dynamic, low-volume liquid handling solutions to ensure optimal sequencing depth and coverage for any application.

Miniaturize NGS methods with automated liquid handler duo

Discover how genomics researchers can miniaturize NGS methods to increase throughput and lower costs using the combination of the mosquito® and dragonfly® automated liquid handlers from SPT Labtech in this interview with Field Application Scientist, Chris Waddling. Hear how the combination of mosquito's highly accurate positive displacement pipetting with dragonfly's non-contact, nanoliter-to-milliliter dispensing provides a solution for laboratories looking to scaleup throughput, and learn about the benefits of these instruments in the field of genomics and beyond.
