Excellent results with high level of repeatability and accuracy.

Average Rating 5.0

Application Area:

Formaldehyde Determination

Quantitative analysis of formaldehyde in water was achieved with a high level of repeatability, and accuracy and with rapid acquisition of spectra. The use of test kits allows for fast and simple analysis, avoiding mixing and weighing of hazardous chemicals, and enables the concentration of formaldehyde to be determined without a calibration curve and by multiplying the measured absorbance at 565 nm by a known factor. Quantitative analysis using UV Lab software provides immediate results.

Severe Issues with the filter sets in daily use environments

Average Rating 2.0

Application Area:

Fluorescent Antibody Conjugates

These instruments have severe issues. In particular, they have issues over time with discontinuities in the signal reported. Basically the signal jumps up and down when the device changes to certain filters. According to the repair tech who did the repair, in higher use environments the intense lamp light will actually burn the filters and cause them to degrade which results in the signal issues we were seeing. He showed us on the filter wheel the burn marks on the filters. This was the most common issue I have seen (common across all four instruments at three different locations) but was certainly not the only one; a stepper motor died twice as well. If memory serves me correctly, we had to call between 5+ times a year per instrument. Combine this with issues in significant variance on day to day runs and we ended up getting rid of these instruments at the last place I worked, replacing them with a competing plate reader instrument which allowed us to reduce variance by an order of magnitude.

Determination of Cholesterol Level in Human Serum - Enzymatic Colorimetric Method

Clinical chemistry uses chemical processes to measure levels of chemical components in the blood. It is very useful for the early diagnostic of disease and for monitoring organ function. The most common specimens used in clinical chemistry are blood and urine. In this application note, the cholesterol level in human serum was determined by the enzymatic method using the LAMBDA™ 465 UV/ Vis Spectrophotometer and UV Lab™ software.

Measurement of Gold Nanoparticle Solutions on the LAMBDA 265 Personal Array UV/Visible Spectrophotometer

Gold nanoparticles are of interest in the study of modern materials. They have unique optical, electronic, and thermal properties and are used in a wide range of applications including diagnostics assays, microscopy and electronics. Although of interest in the quest to find novel materials, they have been used since ancient times as a pigment for stained glass. Gold nanoparticle solutions exhibit different optical properties compared with gold in its more familiar “macro” form as they have a reddish color which changes as the particle size increases. The measurement of these optical properties using the LAMBDA™ 265 Personal Array UV/Visible Spectrophotometer is demonstrated in this application note.

Food Fraud: Pomegranate Juice Adulteration

This case study shows that monitoring of fruit juices does not need to be difficult, time consuming or expensive with testing technologies such as DSA/TOF MS and screening technologies such UV/Vis spectroscopy. Detection technologies such as these will be essential in ensuring that the food and beverage products that are being imported are both safe and authentic.
