Happy with this GC/MS, good value.
Qualitative and quantitative analysis of volatiles
GC/MS capability is indispensable in our lab, and our QP2010 SE was a good choice. The GCMSolutions software has a learning curve - I was used to the Agilent Chemstation style of stepwise/walkthrough changing of method parameters, so the GCMSolutions 'find it yourself' style was tricky at first. However, once I learned where everything was, I found that I actually like the GCMSolutions style better. The instrument itself is great - been using it 6 years now with no significant maintenance issues.

Complex but a really valuable addition to your analytical laboratory.
Multidimensional and comprehensive analysis of metabolites
I have been using GCMS for years and when opportunity came to purchase a multidimensional system came along I looked at systems from several manufacturers. I could not afford a TOF system but quadrupoles are now pretty good for my requirements, and I settled on Shimadzu. The instrument is well made and nicely put together. I particularly like the fact that it consists of a GCMS and a second GC-fid that are connected by a Deans switch, so no secondary ovens. This allows heart cutting of peaks in the fid chromatogram to the second column for GCMS analysis. This allows real deconvolution (in theory) and the cleanest mass spectra I have produced. In addition, the GCMS is fitted with a Zoex big fridge modulator allowing fully comprehensive metabolite analysis. In reality I am still learning what I can do with this system. The software is good and straight forward and I am very happy with my choice. The downside is it’s not for beginners! Using the two machines together requires balancing and a good understanding of chromatography, once the methods are set up however it could be run by anyone with an SOP. By nature, it is slower and more complex than a straight forward GCMS and I would not have only this system in my laboratory, you need a workhorse GCMS also. For fine analysis it’s the bee’s knees.

Clinical Toxicology
QP2010 Ultra is highly selective and sensitive instrument for analysis of abused drugs in urine. The software is user-friendly and with the library resources it allows general unknown analysis as well. Shimadzu distributor provides well established technical service and support.

Drugs Of Abuse Analysis
The software is very awful. There is a lot of information on the same page. Maybe it is interesting when you are doing research or analytical method development but it is not easy to use for routine work.

Capable of fast data measurement with sensitivity five times higher than previous models, the GCMS-QP2010 Ultra offers improved applicability for comprehensive two-dimensional GC and ultra-high separation. Shimadzu used new, patented mass spectrometry technology called Advanced Scanning Speed Protocol (ASSP™), a firmware protocol that optimizes the ion transmission hardware parameters with a highly efficient data collection algorithm, to increase data acquisition speed up to 20,000 u/sec and 100 Hz. ASSP also provides the added benefit of maintaining system sensitivity at elevated scan speeds.
To help increase throughput, the GCMS-QP2010 Ultra features high-speed oven cooling for shorter analysis cycles. Using a double jet cooling system, the GC cools from 350 to 50 degrees Celsius in less than three minutes. The combination of a high-speed GC method and a high-speed cooling oven can reduce the analysis cycle by up to 50 percent.
To further increase lab efficiency, the GCMS-QP2010 Ultra can accept two narrow-bore capillary columns into the MS simultaneously. Its twin-line MS system allows users to switch applications without physically modifying the column installation. Users simply decide which columns are required for analysis and choose the associated injection port.
Solutions for infectious diseases
In this application note, Shimadzu Corporation introduces three analytical instruments to evaluate infectious diseases caused by harmful microorganisms: liquid chromatography-mass spectrometer (LC-MS), matrix assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometer (MALDI-TOF MS), and gas chromatography-mass spectrometer (GC-MS). The note highlights the rise of bacterial infectious diseases in the past 10 years, emphasizing the importance of investigating and examining these infections.

MOSH/MOAH Analyzer for Food and Food Packagings
Discover the routine-capable LC-GC system for on-line determination of mineral oil contaminations in food and food packaging materials as well as in livestock feed, from Shimadzu in this brochure. Shimadzu’s MOSH/MOAH analyzer puts manufacturers of food and food packagings on the safe side. The MOSH/MOAH analyzer has been designed specifically for sensitive and fast detection of mineral oil contaminations based on the draft version of the European Norm 16995:2016. The system combines LC and GC technology with flame ionization detection (FID) for a highly efficient analysis covering preparation, pre-separation and automated processes.
Simple Analysis of Pesticides Using AOC-MEPS System
MEPS (microextraction by packed sorbent), a solid phase microextraction system developed by SGE, consists of a solid-phase extraction cartridge that is integrated in a syringe needle. Analytes of interest can be trapped on the solid phase by simply aspirating the sample, and can accommodate volumes ranging from microliters to milliliters. The analytes that are bound to the sorbent material in the cartridge are dissolved by aspirating elution solvent (volumes from as little as a few to hundreds of microliters), and then injecting directly into the GC or GC/MS for analysis. In this application note, Shimadzu introduces examples of analysis of pesticide residues in crude food extracts and in water using the AOC-MEPS system.
Simultaneous Analysis of 66 Pesticides by GC-MS Using Hydrogen Carrier Gas
Helium gas is typically used as a carrier gas for GC-MS. However, in recent years, the insufficient supply of helium gas and its increase in price have caused problems, prompting global efforts to address these problems. The use of hydrogen gas as an alternative carrier gas holds promise for addressing the issue. This application note presents the application of hydrogen carrier gas to the simultaneous analysis of a standard sample of 66 pesticides using the GCMS-QP2010 Ultra, which features a Dual Inlet Turbo Molecular Pump.
