Thermometric titration is a very versatile determination method and an ideal complement to potentiometric titration. In principle it is suitable for any reaction that produces a sufficiently large temperature change in the sample solution. It is particularly suitable for applications for which no suitable potentiometric sensor is available, for which no suitable reference electrode is available, in which the sample aff…

Simple to use with accurate reliable repeatable results. Always a great combination

Average Rating 5.0

Application Area:

Analyze Sodium content in varying finished products produced

We purchased the 859 Titrotherm to reduce/remove the “human” variable in multiple testers interpretations of old-style titration methods. The ability to set up common variables specific to the type of product being tested allowed us to have a test specific for each product type instead of a generic test that could not account for the difference between product attributes. The 859 Titrotherm is both easy to use and gives accurate reliable and repeatable results. The process is much simpler and cleaner to work with over the old-style titration methods we were using. The support after sale was nothing less than great! Every question no matter how small was answered. They worked with us to ensure we had a level of understanding with the 859 Titrotherm beyond just setting up a sample, pressing start and reading the result. They gave us a clear understanding of how it worked; how to interpret and analyze the results we saw and when and how to make adjustments if needed to ensure we had the accurate results we were after. Definitely a great investment, far superior to how we use to do our testing.

Good results, an alternative for determining the acidity of heavy oils.

Average Rating 4.3

Application Area:

Determination of acidity in petroleum and petroleum derivatives

The equipment had been used for the determination of acidity on petroleum following the standard method ASTM D8045. The results were reproducible and had good agreement with determination of acidity on petroleum following the standard method ASTM D664, which was done using a 905 Titrando (Metrohm). The difference between the two methods were the reproducibility and time of analysis. The Titrotherm was faster than the Titrando and easier to use.

Excellent instrument.

Average Rating 5.0

Application Area:

Analysis of insulantion & lube oil

An exceptional tool. After about 2 years of use, we've never a problem. Excellent repeatability, ease of use, low use of solvents, very low maintenance, very good values when compared to different methods in international proficiency test circuits. We also often use it as a control tool in doubtful cases with other tools and methods. We are fully satisfied with the use we make of it, (TAN insulating oils and lubricants), which is daily use. In the future we will certainly use it for other analyses, such as the determination of TBN in motor oils. Like all instruments where KOH is used, the burette can become blocked if the instrument is not used daily. In general, the feedback for the entire laboratory team is largely positive.

Thermometric titration is a very versatile determination method and an ideal complement to potentiometric titration.

In principle it is suitable for any reaction that produces a sufficiently large temperature change in the sample solution. It is particularly suitable for applications

  • for which no suitable potentiometric sensor is available,
  • for which no suitable reference electrode is available,
  • in which the sample affects the indicator electrode or destroys it,
  • for which no solvent is available that is suitable for potentiometry.

The 859 Titrotherm combines innovative sensor technology with Metrohm's titration know-how. The temperature sensor based on semiconductor technology (thermistor), has a short response time of 0.3 s and a high resolution of 10-5 K. This makes the Thermoprobe the ideal sensor for thermometric titration, as it can follow any change in temperature quickly and accurately.

Metrohm's Dosino technology has defined a new standard for volumetric titration. The Dosing Unit with its drive motor is mounted on the reagent bottle and thus guarantees maximum precision with minimum space requirements.

The clearly laid out Titrotherm software allows adaptation of the screen view to the particular method parameters and thus provides rapid access to important commands or parameters. The endpoints are determined by calculating the first and second derivatives of the titration curve; by means of additional optimization parameters, the reproducibility can be improved even further.
