As a long term user of the Scepter 2 we were hoping for more of the same from the Scepter 3. While Merck have obviously invested in developing the instrument (it has both WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity!) there has been no accompanying investment in the software-in fact there is no analysis software available with the 3.0 version compared to the 2.0 version. This is a deal breaker for us as we want to: -easily compare/overlay histograms to see cell size changes during infections -get an automated readout for viability (we were using % of cells gated within a certain size range) both of which could be done in seconds in the old software and will now require tedious manual analysis if we are to continue using the Scepter3. While the Scepter 3 may be a great quick fix for cell counting for many labs without the accompanying software it falls well short of what we need for documenting our cell lines and cultures. Truly disappointing forced 'upgrade' from Scepter 2.0.
