Description

The F-750 Handheld Brix & Dry Matter Meter uses near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy to estimate quality metrics such as dry matter, Total Soluble Solids (TSS or brix), titratable acidity, and color. Working like a high-powered flashlight, the F-750 sends particles of light into a commodity, then measures the NIR light interactance with molecular components inside of the commodity to quantify user-selected traits.

The F-750 has a wide range of applications, from determining optimal harvest timing by assessing fruit maturity, to providing an objective analysis of produce quality of fruit in packing houses and upon import.

The F-750 is a handheld, fully integrated system, allowing users to operate it out in the orchard or inside the QA lab. Its simple, intuitive user interface makes it easy for anyone to use, while its model building software makes it customizable and versatile.

Application NoteFood and Beverage

Non-destructive Measurements of Moisture Content in Sultanas

Moisture content is an important indicator of quality in dried fruit, both for in-field drying and in processing center operations. The traditional method for moisture content measurement, is both destructive and time-consuming. This application note presents an alternative, non-destructive method of analysis.

Application NoteSpectroscopy

Non-Destructive Measurements of Internal Quality Indicators for Seedless Grapes, Vitis Vinifera

Sugar content is an important metric in determining proper harvest time in grapes and eating quality. To determine effectiveness and viability of the F-750 Produce Quality Meter, in measuring internal sugar content, a study was carried out sampling 270 seedless grapes. Measured values were correlated with the spectral data, and results show that the F-750 Produce Quality Meter precisely and non-destructively measures total soluble solids, with a calculated root mean square error of validation of 0.59 TSS.

Application NoteFood and Beverage

Non-Destructive Measurements of Total Soluble Solids in Chocolate Persimmon

This application note details how the F-750 Produce Quality Meter can be used to measure sugar content (Total soluble Solids (TSS)) in Chocolate Persimmon non-destructively. The F-750 Model Builder Software was used to correlate destructive TSS reference values to non-destructive spectral data. The F-750 is shown to produce accurate TTS values throughout development and storage without damaging the fruit.

Application NoteSpectroscopy

Simultaneous Non-Destructive Measurements of Internal Quality Indicators in Blackberry (Rubus spp.)

Using traditional methodology, sugar and acid content measurements are destructive and time-consuming. To determine effectiveness and viability of the F-750 Produce Quality Meter for simultaneous, non-destructive measurements of TSS and TA in blackberries, a modeling study was conducted on 75 blackberries. The results show that the F- 750 Produce Quality Meter precisely and non-destructively measures TSS and TA in blackberries, with a calculated root mean square error of prediction of 0.18 TSS and 0.05 TA.

Application NoteFood and Beverage

Non-Destructive Measurements of Internal Quality Indicators in Pears

Sugar content is an important metric in determining proper harvest time and eating quality in pears. This application note details a study in which the effectiveness and viability of the F-750 Produce Quality Meter in predicting TSS (Total Soluble Solids) in pears. It was found that the F-750 precisely predicts the internal properties of pears. The F-750 a is fast, accurate and non-destructive way to assess the internal properties of pears and helps to save time and money.

Application NoteSpectroscopy

Non-Destructive Measurements of Dry Matter in Kent Mangoes

High levels of Dry Matter are positively correlated with consumer preference, and therefore harvest time should be managed to maximize Dry Matter. Historically, Dry Matter has been destructively measured, however, near Infrared (NIR) technology, utilized by the F-750 Produce Quality Meter, can nondestructively assess dry matter content. To determine the effectiveness and viability of the F-750 Produce Quality Meter in measuring Dry Matter in mangoes, a study was carried out sampling 96 Kent mangoes.

Application NoteFood and Beverage

Non-destructive Measurements of Total Soluble Solids in Mandarin

High levels of total soluble solids are positively correlated with consumer preference in citrus, and therefore harvest time should be managed to maximize total soluble solids. This application note presents a method using near infrared (NIR) technology, utilized by the F-750 Produce Quality Meter, enabling the assessment of total soluble solid content non-destructively.

Application NoteSpectroscopy

Non-Destructive Measurements of Total Soluble Solids and Dry Matter Content in Apple (Malus spp.)

Orchard harvest can be timed with peak DM content to maximize quality in apples. Sugar content is regularly measured in apples throughout development and storage. Using traditional methodology, TSS and DM content measurements are destructive and time-consuming. To determine effectiveness and viability of the F-750 Produce Quality Meter for non-destructive measurements of TSS and DM in apples, a modeling study was conducted on 40 apple cheeks.

Application NoteFood and Beverage

Through Skin Measurements of Dry Matter in Shepard Avocado

Dry matter is an important indicator of quality in avocados, useful in estimating the harvest date and in processing center operations. The traditional method for dry matter measurement is both destructive and time-consuming. A study was conducted with the F-750 Produce Quality Meter for non-destructive measurements of dry matter in Shepard avocado, using 71 fruit for through skin calibration.

Application NoteFood and Beverage

Non-Destructive Measurements of Total Soluble Solids in Wax Jambu or Wax Apple

This application note details how the F-750 Produce Quality Meter can be used to measure sugar content (Total soluble Solids (TSS)) in Wax Jambu non-destructively. The F-750 Model Builder Software was used to correlate destructive TSS reference values to non-destructive spectral data. The F-750 is shown to produce accurate TTS values throughout development and storage without damaging the fruit.
