BMG plate readers are a great addition to any lab

Average Rating 5.0

Application Area:

Cancer Research

We have been using BMG Labtech plate readers for around 15 years now in my laboratory. We initially started with a PHERAstar Plus, but have since moved to buying two of the more flexible CLARIOStar Plus instruments to support a wide range of microtitre plate applications with greater ease (the LVF monochromator design is great!). We have been so pleased with the performance of BMG plate readers over time - they are extremely reliable and the customer support received by the BMG team is absolutely fantastic. My lab serves around 350 different scientists a year (my lab is a centralised core facility for an entire research Institute) and so reliability, flexibility and user-friendliness of the BMG equipment and software as well as excellent customer support is absolutely key. I can say that BMG excels at all.

ClarioStar is the best plate reader you can have.

Average Rating 5.0

Application Area:

Cell based assays

I've used my Clariostar for years, its reliable, low maintainance, an I can establish new assays with such an ease, as I can scan each fluorophore. Its also so easy as I dont have to buy new filters every time I need another flurophore. What I really love about it, is that you can also upgrade with new technologies as Luminescence or Injection, so no need to buy new - which means less waste! Furthermore the support by the field an inhouse application specialists has always been timely and helpful.

The CLARIOstar® Plus is the most-sensitive monochromator-based microplate reader.. This high-performance multi-mode microplate reader from BMG LABTECH is equipped with revolutionary LVF MonochromatorsTM, spectrometer, and filters. Patented LVF Monochromators™ include cutting-edge technology, such as linear variable filters and a linear variable dichroic mirror. These provide the highest flexibility while delivering filter-like performance for fluorescence and luminescence assays including FRET and BRET. There is no compromise when it comes to sensitivity and flexibility, making the CLARIOstar Plus the leading microplate reader in its class. The Enhanced Dynamic Range and autofocus technologies significantly improve usability, making manual settings superfluous and detection optimisation easier than ever.

Features of the CLARIOstar Plus multi-mode microplate reader include:

  • LVF Monochromators™ with continuously adjustable bandwidths from 8 to 100 nm allow more light for excitation and emission, resulting in greater sensitivity
  • Largest dynamic range with no manual intervention - Rapid full-plate autofocus
  • Increased flexibility with dedicated detectors
  • Top and bottom reading for fluorescence and luminescence assays using monochromators or filters
  • Combine filters and monochromators in the same measurement for higher flexibility in any fluorescence or luminescence assay
  • High-speed, full spectrum UV/vis absorbance (220 to 1000 nm in < 1 second per well)

CLARIOstar Brochure

This product brochure outlines the features of the CLARIOstar microplate reader, including enhanced sensitivity and flexibility achieved through its three separate detection technologies: LVF Monochromators, Spectrophotometer and Filters. The article highlights the benefits of CLARIOstar over other microplate readers, its many different applications and technical specifications.

Lipid peroxidation assay in an ischemia-reperfusion cell model with NCLX inhibitors using the CLARIOstar Plus

Ferroptosis is an iron-dependent form of cell death driven by oxidative damage to membrane lipids, implicated in neurodegenerative diseases. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) generated during hypoxia-reoxygenation, via the mitochondrial NCLX sodium/calcium exchanger, promote lipid peroxidation and cell death. Here, the CLARIOstar Plus microplate reader was used to measure the inhibition of lipid peroxidation in a fluorescence–based lipid peroxidation assay while changing oxygen levels with the Atmospheric Control Unit (ACU).

Measuring protein ligand binding with an endogenous HiBiT CETSA test system

In this application note, BMG LABTECH introduces the HiBiT CETSA, a method for measuring protein-ligand binding in a tracer-free manner. This approach can improve the screening for new ligands by allowing the measurement of endogenous full-length proteins. The HiBiT CETSA detects interactions between proteins and potential ligands by determining the protein's melting point along a heat gradient. The assay allows plotting the temperature against the detected luminescence, and subsequently, the melting curves are analyzed to identify compound-induced thermal shifts.

The Advanced Assay Stability system for temperature-sensitive assays

In this application note, BMG LABTECH discusses the limitations of conventional microplate readers when it comes to temperature stability and its effects on assay precision and reliability. The PHERAstar® FSX with Advanced Assay Stability (AAS) system eliminates external air flow to the inside of the reader, maintaining constant humidity and reducing evaporation. The AAS system enables the PHERAstar FSX to match room temperature conditions and to be maintained at any temperature between 18° and 45°C. It achieves this by automatically heating or cooling the microplate measurement chamber depending on the external environment.
