New Mini Solutions for Film and Pellet Making

Watch this interview to learn about the new mini-pellet maker and new mini-film maker kits. Colin Robinson, Specac, highlights the benefits of using these compact, accurate instruments. The products are lightweight, and can be used with small sample sizes of less than 5mg, producing the same size pellet each time. Interview filmed by SelectScience at ACHEMA 2012.

Mini-Film Maker Kit

Specac Ltd

The Specac Mini-Film Maker is designed to produce high-quality thin films of polymer and plastic materials for infrared transmission analysis. This product enables quick and easy hot pressing of samples at any temperature between ambient to 250°C, to give constant and reproducible thickness films over the range 50 to 500 microns with a formed diameter of 15mm. The Mini-Film Maker Kit includes the Mini-Film Maker Press with integrated heated platens and digital temperature controller, a Film Maker Assembly with Film Sizing Rings of 50, 100, 250 and 500 microns, 200 pairs of Aluminium Foil Discs, a Cooling Plate, a pack of 100 Specacards, and Stainless Steel Tweezers (Forceps). A set of US, EU and UK Power leads are provided as standard.

Mini-Pellet Press

Specac Ltd

The Specac Mini-Pellet Press is an entry-level laboratory hydraulic press for the preparation of high-quality 7mm KBr pellets for transmission FTIR analysis. With a rugged and durable design, this press is intended for regular laboratory use with maintenance-free operation. Specac’s Mini-Pellet Press is designed to be used on a laboratory benchtop, but is small in size and light enough in weight to allow it to be moved to different points of use or stored when not required. Full hydraulic operation, and an innovative sealed hydraulic unit, allows the user to apply the required load for sample preparation through the simple rotation of a load knob. Reproducible load for pressing high-quality KBr pellets suitable for quantitative studies is facilitated by use of integrated pressure gauge. The Specac Mini-Pellet Press is also available as part of a Basic Solid Pack. This pack is equipped with a range of sample preparation components necessary for FTIR solid sample analysis by transmission, including the Mini-Pellet Press, a 7mm Pellet Die Assembly, 7mm Disc Holder for a standard 3” by 2” mount, a pair of spare Pellet Ring Holders, a Pestle and Mortar, and KBr Powder (50g).
