Inspired by Nature – Creating Innovative New Materials for Biomedicine

20 Feb 2019

After a skin injury, our body normally triggers a complex wound healing process to repair the damage. Scientists are investigating the use of tissue engineering to mimic the body’s natural processes and help promote the healing of chronic wounds. In a recent study published in Carbohydrate Polymers, scientists create porous 3D scaffolds made of a naturally-occurring polysaccharide derived from crustacean shells and demonstrate their wound-healing potential.

Cell / Tissue CultureCell culture or tissue culture is used to study the biology of cells or tissues and to isolate cellular products in an environment which can be manipulated and well defined. Accurately control your culture environment with bioreactors or culture incubators, bind your cells to a surface or together with an extracellular matrix. Distinguish cell types with differential media or proliferate cells with certain characteristics using selective media. Enrich your media with supplements such as growth factors, sera and vitamins. Find the best cell and tissue culture products, kits and equipment in our peer-reviewed product directory: compare products, check customer reviews and receive pricing direct from manufacturers.Water PurificationThere are a number of water purification methods available to remove contamination from laboratory water. These systems include demineralization, reverse osmosis, filtration and ultrafiltration. A combination of methods is sometimes necessary to achieve purified water suitable for use in experiments.3D Printing3D printing is becoming an increasingly popular fixture in modern labs. From making bespoke equipment and replacing broken parts, to fabricating biological structures that imitate natural tissue characteristics, 3D printers can be used for a broad range of applications. Polymeric MaterialsPolymeric materials are widely used in industries ranging from biomedical devices to packaging and electronics. Research into these materials focuses on their properties, including strength, flexibility, and degradation. Advances in polymer science have enabled the development of more sustainable and high-performance materials.
