With an UniSpray Ion source, you have greater ionization efficiency, a broader range of compounds ionized in a single run and potential for increased sensitivity. The ion source allows you to see more of your sample within a single analysis when compared to ESI, APCI or APPI.

Review Date: 6 Sept 2023 | Waters

The UniSpray™ ion source allows you to see more of your sample within a single analysis when compared to ESI, APCI or APPI. This enables UniSpray to offer:

  • Greater ionization efficiency - A broader range of compounds ionized in a single run and potential for increased sensitivity
  • Reduce the need to change ionization source between different analyses
  • Tool free routine maintenance - capillary and target pin replacement

Expanding the breadth of ionization
The unique geometry of the UniSpray ion source generates several different mechanisms to produce smaller droplets and enhance desolvation. These effects combine together to generate a greater number of free ions from the same amount of sample when compared to traditional ionization modes such as electrospray and typically results in an increase in response across a wide range of compounds.

The combination of a broader range of analytes and a potential boost in response give the possibility to consolidate several analysis methods into one, or even just remove the need to change over sources between analyses, saving you time and increasing your laboratory efficiency.

Robust, reproducible and easy to use
The single piece probe design and bespoke probe adjuster on the UniSpray ion source allow for simple optimization and tool free routine maintenance of the UniSpray source, ensuring you get the same results, no matter who operates and maintains your instrumentation. In a study of 1000 injections of protein precipitated plasma, analyzing for caffeine, <3% RSD was observed across the entire series of injections.

High efficiency, broad applicability
Available on the full range of Waters Universal Ion Source compatible mass spectrometers, UniSpray expands the scope of your analysis by enabling a wider range of analytes to be ionized in a single run and delivering results for more compounds than ever before without having the change sources.
