"Very easy and intuitive to use and relatively low cost of biosensors allows pilot work to be undertaken without a huge initial financial commitment, which is important in an academic (i.e. grant-funded) setting. Good choice of biosensors, and is increasing over time, although the manufacturers could provide more details about surface chemistry (e.g. capture sensors that are in fact biotin-streptavidin based). Evaporation on the plate has been addressed by a possible instrument upgrade. Would like to see an option for half-well/lower volume plates. Software upgrades are expensive!"

"Octet Red96 is a very nice piece of equipment. It is great for measuring protein interactions in a high-throughput manner. The affinities obtained are equivalent to what can be measured by other techniques, such as ITC, SPR, MST and others. The equipment can also be used for protein quantification, and can be used in "dirty" samples, such as extracts, as it doesn't use any microfluidics."

While it may not give the same resolution that is achieved through traditional SPR techniques, the Fortebio Octet RED system is able to produce reliable, accurate and repeatable results at a much higher throughput and a greatly reduced consumables cost.
