Great software for making publication images.

Average Rating 4.3

Application Area:

Quantitative analysis of western blot

Used this software for quantitative analysis of western blot samples. A very good tool for preparing images for publications, especially a step-wise guide to make final images for publications.

LI-COR fc + Image Studio (sometimes +Empiria) has become a routine in the lab.

Average Rating 4.3

Application Area:

Quantify protein amounts in E. coli cells

This software can be used to quantify proteins in western blot. It is easy to use and a good way of organizing all the information about western blots (antibodies standards, records etc..) and to recover all the information when needed.

You can only normalize to housekeeping protein if you multiplex.

Average Rating 1.7

Application Area:

Western blot analysis

While the concept of the empiria software was great, the updated versions of the software are EXTREMELY LIMITED. They have placed restrictions on how you analyze your western blots that just are not compatible with many valid experimental strategies. If you want to analyze your protein of interest relative to a housekeeping protein or pan-target for post translational modification, you MUST image BOTH the housekeeping protein/pan target AND your protein of interest in the SAME SCAN. So you HAVE to multiplex or your analysis is not allowed. You can't scan your protein day 1 and then a tubulin day 2, not allowed. The only way you are allowed to use a different scan is if you are normalizing to revert. Makes no sense why they would put these restrictions. I have complained to them MULTIPLE TIMES and they won't fix it.

Application Area:

Protein expressions

I’ve been using the LI-COR software for WB analysis and is the best I can find. Even though I’ve only used the free version, it's easy to use and gets good results.
