"I looked for a lot of different automated cell counters when I started my lab. The Celldrop stood out, as there is no requirement to continue to subscribe and buy overpriced proprietary consumables in order to use it. Its also standardized cell counting in the lab, so that our results are consistent regardless of who is counting the cells. The AO/PI counting setting has been an absolute lifesaver in counting tissue samples (footpad, lung, tumor). I have counted these tissues with a hemocytometer and trypan blue as a grad student, and with all the debris its reall difficult to have confidence in the count. With the number of tissues we take in a single experiment, the celldrop also allows us to stop counting and get back to the business of science. It does require loading for every sample, as opposed to the beckman counters where you can walk away, but the extremely small volume needed for counting more than makes up for that in our experiments, where samples are precious"

"I use DeNovix CellDrop for cell culture counts to split my cells, to seed the plates for plaque assay, plaque purification, quick titer Assay. On top of that you can count the cells, if your cells have florescent expression. For that purpose, you do not need any dye.
