Great product and great results! Highly recommended!
Rating: 5.0

  • Application Area:Analyze the molecular structure of organic compounds

"The Cary 630 Instrument w/ PC and SW Bundle from Agilent Technologies is easy to maintain and use. My students and postdoc used it to measure the chemical structure of organic materials and polymers synthesized in our lab. We have used it for 1 year. The instrument is still in excellent condition. It is very user friendly and convenient. The test only takes a few minutes, and the results are reliable and reproducible. I think the quality of this instrument is very high, and it is highly recommended if you need a FTIR."

Would not recommend to anyone!
Rating: 1.0

  • Application Area:Pharmaceutical analysis

"We purchased Cary 630 as it was claimed to be maintenance free equipment. We are a pharmaceutical CRO running about 10-15 samples a day on FTIR. Several issues were observed with this equipment. It heats up very quickly due to small design and starts hanging. The workaround provided by Agilent engineers was to place it directly under the AC and reduce room temperature significantly. The FTIR requires frequent nitrogen flushing and replacement / drying of desiccant - every few weeks. Even then, the laser source has had to be changed twice in last four years, and the interferometer has gone bad. Agilent recommended that their FTIR needs to be in a dehumidified environment with humidity below 35%. Despite having a 5 year warranty and Comprehensive Maintenance Contracts (covering all parts and preventive maintenance) from Agilent, after 3 months of dilly-dally, Agilent has asked us to pay almost 50% of the cost of the equipment for replacement of parts. We have had to procure an FTIR from another vendor due to this. Not just this, their sales team contacted us after 3 months of delay and told us they were willing to buy-back the equipment, if we purchased a new FTIR from them. I would say this was a very bitter experience and poor service."

Faulty design. Poor customer service.
Rating: 1.7

  • Application Area:Pharmaceutical Samples Analysis

"We purchased the Agilent Cary 630 for our pharmaceutical QC lab operations. However, the instrument has led to several issues: (a) The instrument was sold as a portable FTIR, for factory shop floor, but within the first year, the instrument, which was in a climate controlled QC lab, started hanging. The instrument heats up significantly due to its compact size during operation, due to which the engineer asked us to keep it directly under the AC vent. They also refused to give a Comprehensive Maintenance Contract on it, which I have never heard of from a vendor. But since this is a critical requirement for our QC lab, they finally agreed. (b) In the third year the laser source went bad. Initially Agilent's team refused to change it, but when provided with their own document stating 5 year warranty, they replaced it. (c) A few months later, the interferometer went bad. This time after 3 months of wait and shipping the instrument to their site, they refused to honour their CMC and provide repairs or parts without charges (equal to 1/3 the cost of the instrument). (d) We finally purchased another vendor's IR. For us, it was an extremely bitter experience of Agilent's service (or lack of it) and faulty equipment."

Spectra have good resolution.
Rating: 2.7

  • Application Area:Analyze polymer conformation

"Sometimes the connection between spectrometer and computer are disconnected without any warning, though the spectra done will be saved. To restart, the program must be closed by the user and sometimes the spectrometer must be turned off for a while and then turned on to start again. Obviously this delays the work. On the other hand the instrument has a good resolution and is repetitive. Could be that my knowledge of the instrument is limited."

I got very good results from the FTIR.
Rating: 4.3

  • Application Area:Suspension of water based Al2O3 nanofluids

"I wanted an equipment to analyze the suspension of nanoparticles in the water and I discussed with my Supervisor and in a very short time, he said that we are going to have FTIR spectrometer from Agilent. When we got our equipment, I found it very user-friendly and with all the required accessories to analyze all the three phases of matter, gas, solid and liquid along with the suspension. For my work, It was very convenient to analyze the suspension of nanoparticles of different particle size and of different particle concentrations. But after some time, I found some signal from the equipment regarding the moisture in the machine. I immediately contacted the maintenance engineer from Agilent Technologies and he briefed me everything in a very effective manner that how silica balls will be helpful to keep the equipment moisture free. I spend a great time while working with the FTIR."
