Excellent instrument for immunohematology

The BD FACS Canto II is a workhorse in the world of flow cytometry, and my experience with it has been overwhelmingly positive. As a researcher in the field of immunology, I rely on this instrument for daily experiments and data acquisition. Ease of Use: One of the standout features for me is its user-friendly interface. Setting up experiments and running samples is straightforward, thanks to the intuitive BD FACSDiva software. Even for those new to flow cytometry, the learning curve is manageable. Multi-Parameter Analysis: The ability to simultaneously measure multiple parameters is a game-changer. With multiple lasers and detectors, I can explore complex cell populations with precision. This is crucial for my work, as I often need to characterize immune cell subsets with several markers. Reliability: The BD FACS Canto II has proven to be incredibly reliable. It rarely experiences downtime, which is crucial when you're working on time-sensitive experiments. The consistent performance and reproducible results are a testament to its quality. Sample Throughput: In my lab, we deal with a high sample volume, and this instrument handles it with ease. Its high-throughput capabilities have significantly improved our workflow efficiency. Versatility: Whether I'm performing immunophenotyping, cell cycle analysis, or apoptosis assays, the BD FACS Canto II delivers consistent and accurate results. This was especially helpful when our lab first acquired the instrument. The support team was responsive, and the training sessions ensured that we could make the most of its capabilities. However, we do some problems in third world countries. In summary, my personal experience with the BD FACS Canto II has been nothing but positive. It's a reliable, user-friendly, and versatile flow cytometer that has greatly enhanced our research capabilities. If you're considering adding a flow cytometer to your lab, I highly recommend giving the BD FACS Canto II serious consideration.

It is a very good product and stable. I have good and reproducible results during the years - I used it daily. Easy to use and a very good service team. It's not cheap but it's worth the money!

We purchased the Facs Canto II with High Through put attachment (HTS). The HTS broke down several times within the first year, they kept giving us refurbished HTSs that were just as bad as the first one. We wanted to purchase a spare HTS that we could swap ourselves because we were tired of losing experiments when it broke down. The company's response? Charge us $8,100 dollars every year for the privilege of having a subpar replacement in a service contract, in addition to our regularly overpriced service contract for the whole machine. Next time we are definitely not purchasing from BD, we are going to the competitors!

Quick daily maintenance, end of day clean is simple and allows you to walk away. High throughput analyzer. Engineers are very helpful on the phone and very quick to respond to initial contact with technical support. Engineer in lab within 1-2 days. FACSDIVA software allows detailed analysis of data.

Numerous innovations make the system easy to use, powerful, and productive. A fixed alignment flow cell, for example, minimizes startup time and improves reproducibility. And a patented optical design maximizes signal detection and increases sensitivity and resolution for each color in a multicolor assay.

High Performance, Innovative System

The BD FACSCanto™ II system features many innovations. At the heart of the cytometer, for example, the fluidics system features a fixed-alignment flow cell to minimize startup time and improve reproducibility. The BD FACSCanto II fluidics system is designed to streamline work, save time, and improve performance. In the fluidics system, the sample travels up the sample injection tube, and hydrodynamic focusing within the flow cell forces particles into a single-file stream where laser light intercepts the stream at the sample interrogation point. The unique flow cell design permits particles to flow through the center of the flow cell. Increasing the sample pressure increases the core diameter and the flow rate.

Fluidics cart

A fluidics cart holds large fluid tanks necessary to operate and maintain the instrument. For sample acquisition, positive-pressure pumps in the fluidics cart send sheath fluid past a 0.2-μm filter to a pressurized interior reservoir inside the instrument called the plenum. The plenum maintains a nearly constant fluid level and dampens pump pulsation using a new dynamic feedback pressure control system designed to regulate pressure. As a result, sheath flow rate does not vary with the level of fluid in the sheath cubitainer, and the reservoir automatically removes small air bubbles from the sheath supply.

Hydrodynamic focusing

A high flow rate is generally used for measurements such as immunophenotyping, for which data is less resolved but is acquired more quickly. A lower flow rate is generally used in applications for which optimal resolution and sensitivity are critical.

Software

Daily routine procedures such as startup, shutdown, and cleaning routine cycles are automated as a result of fluidic integration with BD FACSCanto clinical software or BD FACSDiva™ software. BD FACS™ shutdown solution prevents salt crystal buildup in fluidics lines and is supplemented with a preservative to prevent bacterial growth. During the instrument shutdown procedure, BD FACS shutdown solution replaces sheath fluid in all sample and sheath fluid lines.

LED alerts

LEDs are located in the front door to monitor each acquisition parameter. Each LED blinks when the signal level reaches a prescribed threshold.
