We obtained acceptable scores on all PT schemes. Oldies but goldies.
Rating: 5.0

  • Application Area: Metal analysis

"My oldies but goldies - The AA240FS sequential fast atomic absorption spectrometer has the productivity and analysis speed of ICP-OES at the price of AA. Like an ICP-OES, the AA240FS measures all the desired elements in each sample, unlike conventional AA systems that determine a single element at a time, requiring repeated steps for all samples and each element analyzed. AA240FS provides complete results for each test in minutes. This feature (FS) is applicable to the flame technique and saves time, reduces sample volumes and gas flows used, but also brings a reduction in operating costs and an increase in the efficiency of the team because more samples can be determined in less time. When using the atomization technique in graphite tubes, quantification limits can be decreased with a good immediate and intermediate repeatability. The equipment is controlled by friendly Windows-based software. It has multi-tasking capabilities and can be equipped with a full range of accessories to provide additional capabilities. Consumables and spare parts are not a problem, they are delivered quickly at acceptable prices. The maintenance is provided by the Agilent representative in Romania at very good prices. It is a good, reliable ibnstrument with good productivity. It was a good purchase for my lab, so I recommend it to others."

Good results and control of your methods.
Rating: 4.3

  • Application Area:Analyze metals in water samples

"The flame emission side is very easy to work with. It runs fast and accurate. Will need to modify some methods with matrix modifiers depending on your state of certification and what is required. It is much easier to run than the graphite side of the instrument."

  • Application Area:I used in all my PhD projects do determine trace metals in different matrices.

"It's a good machine to make trace metal analysis in different matrices. I used samples with high salinity (using the VGA part as well), water, soft drinks (most common pops) and also already saw my colleagues using emulsification fuel samples, and worked very well. The software is easy to learn and use. It could be also use as a routine practices and for research as well."

"After the standards and samples run with the AA240FS it turns the flame off which is annoying. Nonetheless it is a solid instrument."

"These are good, precise instruments but can be time-consuming to calibrate."

Review date: 23 Jun 2008 | Agilent 240Z AA and 280Z AA Zeeman Atomic Absorption Spectrometers

Based on the sensitive AC-modulated Zeeman technique, proven to give the best detection limits of any Zeeman spectrometer, the 240Z AA, with up to 4 fixed lamp positions and the 280Z AA, with up to 8 fixed lamp positions, offer the highest sensitivity, performance, simplicity of operation and industry-leading software in atomic spectroscopy. The instruments are supplied with the GTA 120 Zeeman graphite tube atomizer for superior graphite furnace performance and are controlled by our acclaimed Windows-based Worksheet software.

Features:

  • Enhanced detection limit performance—For ultra trace-level detection limits, plug in high-intensity UltrAA lamps. No additional power supply is required.
  • Optimized performance— PC-controlled magnetic field strength can be varied from 0.1 to 0.8 Tesla; the field strength remains locked during measurement, minimizing effects of mains voltage variations.
  • Versatility—Add the VGA for Zeeman adaptor and the hydride generation technique to validate Zeeman graphite furnace AA results; offers the flexibility to analyze difficult matrices.
  • Outstanding performance at ppb levels with the Constant Temperature Zone furnace design
  • Easy alignment—Only a single light source is required.
  • 11-fold improvement in correction accuracy—Polynomial interpolation provides superior accuracy over competing systems that use simple linear interpolation (bracketing).
  • Develop optimum analysis conditions with the SRM Wizard and Tube-Cam—Drying, ashing and atomization temperatures, modifiers, injection volumes ensure high sensitivity, free from interferences.
