Really good product, could be better.
Clinical microbiology
It is great as far as getting quick accurate identifications. And vastly cheaper and quicker than identification cards off the Vitek 2 systems. Down side of the instrument is it doesn't identify common gram positive bacilli as well as other organisms. We have an older instrument, and it has its mechanical problems too frequent. But when problems occur, we can call support and normally get problems taken care of same day, if not a couple days for very complex problems. Everyone working technical services is wonderful at troubleshooting problems.

Microbe identification
The Vitek MS is a workhorse for our micro lab. It is easy to learn and use if taught correctly (seriously, our students can run this after showing them once or twice). It rarely goes down and required. maintenance is almost non-existent. It dramatically improves patient outcomes by providing identification of pathogens as soon as day 1 of culture reading. I also dramatically speeds up the learning curve of new microbiologists by providing an ID in relation to culture interpretation. It would be a struggle to try to function without the MS at this point. It's a good thing downtime is a real rarity! I would recommend this to any lab that wants to improve speed to result and patient outcomes.

Fast and accurate identifcations of fungal and bacterial isolates.
MALDI-TOF
Our laboratory went from using the identification cards on the Vitek 2 to using the Vitek MS. We absolutely love it! We now are able to provide fast bacterial and fungal identifications almost 24 hours faster than the previous method.

The product is excellent but the only problem is that it requires frequent calibration. If you have not calibrated the system on time then it will not give results.
