Description

Select-eV®, available with BenchTOF mass spectrometers, enables the energy of ionising electrons to be changed, breaking new ground in the field of GC-MS.

Features:

  • Obtain reference-quality electron ionisation mass spectra with conventional full-fragmentation patterns, and repeatable 'soft-ionization' spectra with reduced fragmentation and an enhanced molecular ion
  • Overcome sensitivity compromises of previous approaches to soft electron ionisation, and the inconvenience of reagent gases or source exchange required with other approaches to soft ionization
  • Desired ionization energy simply selected as part of the method setup in the controlling software
  • Energies can be varied from standard 70 eV down to 10 eV
  • Now with Tandem Ionisation® capability, allowing fast switching between hard and soft ionization across and peak, for simultaneous acquisition of two data sets in a single run

Select-eV: The Next Generation of Ion Source Technology

This application note describes Select-eV®, a new development in ion-source technology for GC–MS that allows the energy of electron ionization to be reduced on a sliding scale from 70 eV to 10 eV without impacting sensitivity by changing a parameter in the method.

Characterization of Allergens in Cosmetics by GC×GC–TOF MS with Select-eV Variable-Energy Electron Ionization

This application note shows that BenchTOF instruments, coupled with GC×GC, can provide a high-performance solution for the detection and quantitation of allergens in complex cosmetics extracts. Revolutionary variable-energy electron ionization technology was also shown to enhance both the sensitivity and selectivity of analyses by generating mass spectra containing structurally-significant fragment ions with an improved molecular ion signal.

Characterisation of Allergens in Cosmetics by GC×GC–TOF MS with Select-eV Variable-Energy Electron Ionisation

Rapid Analysis of Environmental Contaminants by Fast GC–TOF MS with Select-eV Variable-Energy Electron Ionisation

This application note shows that BenchTOF time-of-flight mass spectrometers provide a robust, high-performance and high-throughput solution for screening multiple trace-level environmental contaminants. Revolutionary variable-energy electron ionization is also shown to aid compound identification and enhance the selectivity and sensitivity of analyses by generating secondary (qualifying) mass spectra with reduced fragmentation and a stronger molecular ion signal.

Analysis of Complex Petrochemicals by GC×GC–TOF MS with Select-eV Variable-Energy Electron Ionization

This application note shows that BenchTOF instruments, coupled with GC×GC, can provide a high-performance solution for the characterization of hydrocarbons in complex petrochemical samples. Variable-energy electron ionization technology is also shown to enhance analyte speciation by providing additional data on both molecular ions and structurally significant fragments in the low-energy mass spectra. The enhanced sensitivity and selectivity stemming from the dramatic reduction in fragmentation at low energies also greatly increases the number of compounds identified, permitting robust statistical comparisons essential for successful chemical fingerprinting.

Enhancing Aroma Profiling of Wine with GC–TOF MS

This application note shows that BenchTOF time-of-flight mass spectrometers, coupled with GC, can provide a high performance solution for the detection and quantitation of aroma compounds in wine extracts. In particular, we show how the ChromCompare data-mining module of BenchTOF software allows rapid identification of minor differences between samples. Results also demonstrate how the Select-eV variable-energy ionization capability of the flagship BenchTOF-Select can enhance both the sensitivity and selectivity of analyses.
