MB49 is a well-characterised and long established murine urothelial carcinoma cell line derived from C57BL/6 mouse bladder epithelium. MB49 serves as a clinically relevant syngeneic model for bladder cancer research and has been a cornerstone of research for 45 years.

Key features:

  • Rapidly generates tumours when injected subcutaneously and orthotopically into syngeneic mice.
  • Recapitulates key features of sex differences in tumour growth seen in patients
  • Loss of the Y-chromosome and expression of male-specific antigens, which is a frequent feature observed in human bladder cancer
  • Dose-dependent enhanced proliferation to dihydrotestosterone and lack of proliferation to human chorionic gonadotrophin

Applications:

  • Immunotherapy development
  • Preclinical drug screening
  • Biomarker discovery
