BIOFIRE® Blood Culture Identification 2 (BCID2) Panel
The BIOFIRE® BCID2 Panel tests for 43 targets associated with bloodstream infections, including gram-negative bacteria, gram-positive bacteria, yeast, and 10 antimicrobial resistance genes.
We love this instrument

Biofire is an instrument that we cannot live without !!
Identification of medically important blood-borne pathogens
Our clinical staff depends on Biofire to deliver fast and accurate results of blood-borne pathogens, especially in the overnight hours when staffing is not at optimum.

It is a staple in our lab and will always be included in our blood culture workups.
microbiology rapid positive blood culture ID.
The BCID2 panel offers rapid identification of organisms in a positive blood culture. If your facility has good antibiograms, this test can get help to quickly adjust antibiotic medications to better target the infection. Saves time and improves patient care.

Rapid results to our providers enabling faster diagnosis and treatments!
Determining bacteria in blood cultures
We recently started using the BioFire Torch. I love this instrument. It is easy to use and very limited set up time. There is no daily/monthly maintenance. Great addition to our lab instruments.

A reliable partner in quality care!
For diagnostic application
The Film Array Biofire system is easy to use. Its application in the correct diagnosis has been overwhelmingly helpful to the providers. In addition tech support is always hassle-free with an ever ready replacement of the module each time problems are encountered. The only drawback that I can say is the pricing of the panels which are so expensive to procure.

Excellent instrument and panel - really improves patient care and outcomes!
Test positive patient blood cultures for pathogens via molecular methods
It is extremely easy to use and the results are confirmed by culture and are reproducible We haven't seen discrepancies with the updated panel (BCID2). The BCID2 panel is wonderful with the expanded targets and the clarification of MRSA results (no longer possible to miscall it). It is a great value because we are able to give providers results within 1 or 2 hours following the reporting of the Gram stain result so they can start the patient on an appropriate antibiotic based off our antibiogram and with the knowledge of if there is a positive result for a resistance gene.

- Available for use on the BIOFIRE® FILMARRAY® TORCH System.
Right-sizing the clinical microbiology lab: How centralized and decentralized models drive stewardship, efficiency, and outcomes
Tuesday, June 2, at 13:00 EDT | 10:00 PDT
Bloodstream infections demand fast, accurate results – but many laboratories face increasing operational and financial constraints. As expectations for turnaround time, stewardship, and quality rise, labs must decide how to deliver better answers without adding complexity or cost.
Join this expert‑led webinar to explore how different blood culture testing models can succeed in today’s healthcare environment.
Learn From Two Proven, Real‑World Approaches
In this SelectScience® webinar, hosted in partnership with bioMérieux, two clinical microbiology leaders – Dr. Stella Antonara, PhD, D(ABMM) and Dr. J. Kristie Johnson, PhD, D(ABMM) – share their firsthand experiences implementing centralized and decentralized blood culture testing models.
Rather than promoting a one‑size‑fits‑all solution, this session offers a balanced, evidence‑based discussion that reflects the realities of modern laboratory operations. Through real‑world examples, the speakers examine how thoughtful workflow design, and right‑sized instrumentation can:
- Strengthen antimicrobial stewardship efforts
- Improve operational efficiency and resource utilization
- Support better, faster clinical decision‑making
