BELPYCNO L Gas Pycnometer
Fully automated density measurement of powders and porous materials
BELPYCNO L is a fully automated gas pycnometer for the determination of volume and skeleton density of powders, granulates, porous materials, mixtures, pastes and liquids. The combination of an internal temperature control and an absolute pressure transducer compensates any influences from ambient temperature and pressure fluctuations. The expansion path of the Helium gas from the reference into the sample chamber avoids any contamination issues. The gas pycnometer replaces the classical method of liquid displacement. Instead, a probe gas such as helium is used which can reach even the smallest pores with a diameter of less than one nanometer. Thus, the density of powders and porous materials can be determined exactly.
BENEFITS:
- Built-in linearized absolute pressure transducer
- Sample cell and reference volumes are separated from the electronics
- Built-in accurate ATC (Automatic Temperature Control)
- Short measurement time and fast system stabilization

Plus, learn how Microtrac technologies may be used to make measurements of density, gas adsorption and porosity, central factors in the analysis of battery active materials.
Density test of viscous liquids
In this application note, Microtrac MRB provides an overview of the BELPYCNO L density analyzer as well as an example of a density test on liquid pastes for ceramic production. The BELPYCNO L promises to be a reliable instrument for measuring the density of viscous liquids or powder dense suspensions in water. The instrument has been tested in a variety of applications, these include:
- Liquid pastes for ceramics production
- Detection of air bubbles trapped in highly viscous compounds, like bitumen
- Paints in the liquid form
- Components for lipsticks
- Density measurement of adhesives in the liquid and in the hardened state
