Powerful homogenization in a small footprint. A must-have for every laboratory.

Average Rating 5.0

Application Area:

Trace residue analysis in crop and environmental samples.

Our Bead Ruptor has been an enormous time saver. Previously sample homogenization of multiple samples could be a bottleneck. Especially if multiple chemists needed to use our traditional homogenizers, which are expensive and take up a lot of bench space. The Bead Ruptor makes quick work of multiple samples at once. We've used the 50 mL rack which holds 3 polypropylene centrifuge tubes, the 30 mL, rack which holds 6 tubes and the 7 mL rack which holds 24 tubes. If you are able to miniaturize your sample size, we've found the 30 mL rack setup to be the best compromise as far as the number of samples that can be processed at once and traditional sample size. The methods using our traditional homogenizers usually take 5-15 minutes of homogenization time. Compare this with 30 seconds to a minute on the Bead Ruptor due to its powerful motor. Added benefits are there's no need to clean probes and no fear of cross-contamination or loss of residues. It has really revolutionized how we approach method development too. Bead Ruptor + Quechers = awesome savings in time, and cost for solvent and consumables.

Has cut sample processing time drastically - a must have!

Application Area:

analyze parent compound in tissue samples

Ease of use - Very easy to use and program. The only downfall is that the plates can be hard to unscrew. After sales care - Omni representatives are very responsive and kind. Value for money - We do not regret purchasing the instrument but, we wish the consumables were more reasonably priced. Overall a great instrument. It took some trial and error to find the right settings for the tissues we process, but after you figure it out, you are golden.

Application Area:

We use the Bead Ruptor to homogenize animal tissues in organic solvents.

We purchased this product to replace a traditional shearing homogenizer. It is easier to use, safer (no solvent splashes), and quieter (no hearing protection required). It is programmable, ensuring consistent handling of all samples. It processes up to 24 samples simultaneously. It is very powerful. We process most of our samples for two to three cycles at 10 to 15 seconds per cycle. Customer support from Omni is very good. We were able to demo the unit before purchasing to make sure it would work with all of our applications. Our Omni rep was in constant communication with us during the demo and after our purchase to make sure all went smoothly. If you regularly homogenize a large number of samples, I would recommend trying out this product. It has greatly decreased the time and effort our lab spends on sample preparation.

Evaluation of Homogenization Methods for Extraction of Live Bacteria and Recombinant DNA in Soil

In many soil types, ubiquitous bacteria are present very in low quantities due to the inherent challenges of microorganism survival in environmental conditions. While, in some cases, only present in low quantity, soil microorganisms are a critical component of our ecosystem. Soil microbiome studies aim to characterize the microbial repertoire and to correlate the microbial population with soil and ecological functions. While many studies involve culturing and isolation of bacteria harvested from the soil, some organisms are hard to propagate in the laboratory or require the sample to be processed directly to maintain analyte integrity. In this study, the recovery and qPCR detection of a modified bacterium from spiked soil samples was evaluated to find a limit of detection with silica spin column purification methods for plasmids. Genetically modified Escherichia coli (E. coli) with green florescent protein (GFP) allowed the absolute subtraction of background signal originating from native organisms found in the soil samples.

Purification and Evaluation of Total RNA from Porcine Skin

By understanding the levels of RNA found in cells, scientists can better understand gene regulation and expression. Extraction of high quality RNA is the first and most vital step in performing many molecular biological techniques. RNA degrades relatively quickly so it's important to have a method that will isolate purified RNA while also minimizing degradation. In this application note, the potential of the Bead Ruptor Elite is evaluated for the extaction of RNA from porcine skin.

Detection of the Bacterial 16S rDNA Gene from Soil Samples using the Omni Soil DNA Purification Mini Kit Brandon

A popular method to determine the microorganisms present in soil is to extract and amplify the microbial DNA. However, this can be problematic as soil is rich in substances which can inhibit polymerases and restriction enzymes. This application note evaluates the Omni Soil DNA Purification Mini kit’s ability to extract DNA from a soil sample using the Bead Ruptor 24 Elite for mechanical dissociation of the soil/microbe samples prior to PCR inhibitor removal and DNA purification. It concludes that using the kit in combination with the Bead Ruptor 24 Elite gives a high yield of microbial DNA from challenging soil samples and removed PCR inhibitors.

Purification and Evaluation of Total RNA from Porcine Skin on the Bead Ruptor Elite Bead Mill Homogenizer

Hard samples such as skin and bone present a significant challenge for the extraction of RNA. Common methods require freezing the tissue, but this is typically very involved and time-consuming. This application note evaluates the potential for the extraction of RNA from porcine skin using the Bead Ruptor 24 Elite bead mill homogenizer. It was found that the Bead Ruptor 24 Elite was excellent at processing skin samples and that total RNA extracted was in excess of 600 ng/µl.
