AIMsight
The AIMsight infrared (IR) microscope is an automatic analysis system that maximizes automation to significantly improve efficiency of microsample defect analysis. This FT-IR microscope accurately measures micro targets by irradiating them with infrared rays, and then gauges the reflectance and transmittance from sample molecules. The AIMsight features several user-friendly functions, such as easy measurement range determination via a wide-field camera, automatic identification of measurement targets, automatic setting of measurement position, and automatic analysis via a contaminant analysis program, assuring that both beginners and specialists can feel confident from the very first analysis.
In addition to trace contaminant analysis and quality control for products such as chemicals, electronics, machinery, and transportation equipment, AIMsight also plays a big role in researching microplastics, tiny plastic particles that have a negative impact on the environment.
Analysis of microplastics by the iSpect™ and AIM-9000 Infrared
In this application note, Shimadzu outlines a qualitative analysis of the shape and concentration of particles contained in environmental water using a dynamic particle image analysis system and an infrared microscope.
Exploring the layered structure of composite films using a FTIR microscope
In this application note, Shimadzu explains how its IRTracer-100 FTIR spectrophotometer combined with the AIM-9000 FTIR microscope can be used to analyze the layered structure of composite films.
Microplastic Analysis Using the AIM-9000 Infrared Microscope
Microplastics are minute pieces of plastic with diameters ranging from a few micrometers to a couple of millimeters. In recent years, microplastics have become a global marine environmental issue since they may adversely affect coastal and marine ecosystems and potentially harm the health of human beings. In light of this issue, Japan is investigating the distribution of microplastics and the amount of harmful chemical substances such as PCB that are adsorbed to such microplastics in the coastal and offshore areas of Japan and a wide area spanning from Japan to the South Pole. In addition, the government is calling on businesses to stop using microbeads in personal care products such as scrubs.
Reflectance Measurement of Thick Samples Using an Infrared Microscope
The AIM-9000 automated micro analysis system can normally measure samples with a thickness of up to approximately 10 mm by placing the sample on the stage. However, by removing the lower cassegrain (condenserobjective), samples with a thickness of up to 40 mm can be placed for reflectance and ATR measurement. This article introduces examples of reflectance measurement of samples with a thickness larger than 10 mm.
