The latest laboratory products to win a prized Seal of Quality have been revealed – including the very first Gold Seal of Quality award of 2019.

Launched in July 2017, SelectScience Seals of Quality recognize the top-rated products that have consistently received the highest review ratings from scientists around the world and are designed to further assist scientists in making important purchasing decisions for their labs.

During a glitzy awards ceremony at the 2019 Pittcon Conference and Expo in Philadelphia, U.S.A., Specac Ltd became only the eighth company ever to receive a prized Gold Seal of Quality, for itsAtlas Manual Hydraulic Presses.

Michael Lever, digital marketing manager at Specac, said: “To win a Seal of Quality on the SelectScience Reviews Program is such an honor and so useful.

“We relish the fact that not only do we know what scientists think of the products themselves, but we learn more about their applications and what they are using them for, which is great for us because we can tailor future instruments to be more appropriate for those applications.”

Another manufacturer celebrating at the party was Waters, which received Bronze and Silver Seal of Quality trophies for its XBridge Columns and VanGuard Column Protection Products respectively. Wyatt Technology Corp., meanwhile, was presented with a Gold Seal of Quality trophy for its DAWN Multi-Angle Light Scattering Detector, in recognition of previously achieving the required number of positive reviews.

There are four levels of Seal — Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze — which are assigned to around 0.1% of products on the SelectScience® website and are allocated in line with strict criteria based on the number of reviews a product has received and the average rating of those reviews.

“Our Seals of Quality program aims to help scientists across the world see at a glance the lab products most appreciated by their peers, so we are delighted at how well received it has been across the industry,” said SelectScience Editor, Dr. Lois Manton O’Byrne.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our reviewers for sharing their valuable opinions and also to congratulate the latest Seal of Quality winners, who have been recognized by the people who matter most — their customers.”

Gas ChromatographyGas chromatography (GC) is an analytical technique used to separate and quantitate mixtures of small and volatile compounds. Gas chromatographs or GC systems include components such as GC columns, detectors, pumps and autosamplers. Choose from packed or capillary GC columns, flame ionization (FID), photoionization (PID) electron capture detectors and selective or non-selective detectors. Find the best gas chromatographs in our peer-reviewed product directory: compare products, check customer reviews and receive pricing direct from manufacturers.UHPLC and HPLCHigh performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and ultra high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC), also known as UPLC, are analytical techniques used to separate, identify and quantitate components of complex mixtures including biological samples such as proteins and lipids as well as chemical mixtures of pesticides, drugs and oils. Both techniques are liquid chromatographic methods but differ by operating pressures (HPLC < 6000 psi < UHPLC ). Components of HPLC and UHPLC systems include columns, detectors, pumps, autosamplers and column heaters. Explore a range of UHPLC and HPLC columns for your specific sample needs including reverse phase, normal phase, ion exchange, HILIC, ion exclusion and size exclusion columns. For more specialized HPLC, explore FPLC, countercurrent LC and simulated moving bed systems. Quantify proteins, contaminants, pesticides or screen for drug metabolites with a high level of sensitivity. LC-MS systems and equipment include reverse phase, normal phase and specialized columns integrated with various MS detectors such as time-of-flight (TOF), quadrupole, orbitrap or ion trap mass analyzers. LC-MS/MS instruments equipped with a qTOF or triple quadrupole analyzer give greater sensitivity and resolving power to your analysis. It provides detailed information about the structure, composition, and properties of compounds and is widely used across fields such as environmental monitoring, materials science, drug discovery and development, food and beverage testing, and wider chemical research. Key MS techniques include tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS), liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LS-MS) and inductively coupled plasma (ICP-MS). Choosing from these wide range of techniques and technologies can be a daunting task, so keep up to date with scientific applications, performance expectations, and customer reviews here all in one place. GC-MS GC-MS (gas chromatography-mass spectrometry) instruments and equipment are used to separate, quantify and identify mixtures of small and volatile compounds, such as polycyclic aromatics, fatty acids and alcohols. Often used in drug detection, forensic investigation and environmental analysis for pesticides and contaminants, GC-MS is a powerful addition to your lab’s analytical capabilities. GC-MS/MS instruments equipped with a qTOF or triple quadrupole analyzers can give greater sensitivity and resolution to your analysis. Milling equipment includes grinders, ball mills, cutting mills, jaw crushers, knife mills, beater and planetary mills. Sorting of smaller particulates can be achieved with test sieves and sieve shakers. Final powders can be pressed with hydraulic presses. Milling and pressing solid samples is an important preparation step in X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (XRF) and diffraction (XRD).
