New ProLab laboratory meters from SCHOTT Instruments

Product news

Following the succesful introduction of their Lab series instruments, SCHOTT Instruments announces yet another new laboratory meters series combining innovative technology with superb design. The series includes the pH meter ProLab 1000 and the multiparameter instrument ProLab 2000.

SUPERB DESIGN

At the first glance, the ProLab instruments are distinguished by elegant design and fine workmanship. The bottom part is made of cast metal and the large, paper-white graphic display is covered with a one-piece glass slide. These instruments will be a delight to look at and to use.

INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY

The ProLab instruments feature SCHOTT Instruments’s wireless sensor recognition introduced earlier with the Lab 870. The new ID sensors send their specific data wireless to the measuring instrument, which thereby always uses the correct calibration for the identified sensor, helping to avoid measurement errors. Even two sensors connected simultaneously (with ProLab 2000) can be recognized reliably.

The same transponder technology is used for the new and distinctive feature of the automatic wireless user recognition. This is an electronic identification card in a keyring pendant, that only needs to be drawn close to the instrument to identify the owner as a registered user for GLP compliant measurements.

ElectrophoresisElectrophoresis equipment is used to separate mixtures of protein, DNA or RNA, based on their electric charge, size and other physical characteristics, by passing them through a medium such as a polyacrylamide gel, an agarose gel or a capillary tube. Electrophoresis equipment includes horizontal and vertical gel electrophoresis chambers, isoelectric focusing systems, 2D electrophoresis and capillary electrophoresis instruments. Precast gels with a gradient can be used or gels can be hand cast. Samples are run alongside ladders or markers to identify the approximate size of a molecule. Separated proteins and nucleic acids in the gel can be stained or probed with fluorescent markers and then imaged and detected using gel documentation instruments, transilluminators, densitometers and scanners. Other meters can also measure the conductivity or dissolved oxygen content of a solution. pH meters, specific ion meters, conductivity meters and dissolved oxygen meters can come as benchtop or portable equipment. A meter’s electrodes can be replaced with easy to clean electrodes or electrodes for difficult media. pH, ion and conductivity meters are typically used in life science research, pharmaceutical testing, food and beverage, environmental and water analysis. Features of ph and ion meters to consider include temperature compensation, auto-calibration, adjustable resolution, measurable range and accuracy. Meters can be handheld, portable, benchtop and modular.
